Default Stablemate for the R, put down a deposit on an elise.

Put down a REFUNDABLE deposit to be on the waiting for the lotus elise when it arrives in 03, promised @ MSRP. Supposedly, I'll be able to order the car in whatever color I want and get whatever options I choose (if options are available). I've been wanting an elise since it came out.

I had to mail a check, I am waiting for the written reply that states I will get it at MSRP. I should be about #4 or #5 according to the salesman I spoke to.

Deposit was $500.

Whats MSRP on that? Also does anybody know the price of the Elise that the company in CA sells with the B18C5 in it?

As of now, MSRP on the 03 elise will be $38.5K. The company in california that modifies them, sun-international, charges about $20-25K over the price of the car of which the customer has to provide. So, you are talking about $55K for a gen 1 elise or $70K or so for an exige (my favorite).

MSRP is $38k. Much as I like Elises (got to drive a friend's one in Ireland), they are not worth this amount of money. It is a very basic stripped down car, which is nice but it should be reflected in the price. The engine in this car is very unrefined - it is like something out of a late eighties rental car.

The whole entire point of an Elise is that it an affordable stripped down racer. They cost about $28k new in the UK. You can get a lot of very nice cars for $38k, particularly by next year - Lancer EVO VII, RX8, new Z, STi, 1-year-old 315hp M Coupe, etc.

Now, if they put a B18C5 in this thing, $38k would not seem too terrible because it would put the car into an entirely different league.

What do you get for that $20-25k besides a used B18C5 (they don't even buy a new one according to the article I read in SCC)? Sounds like a pretty hefty profit margin if that is all they do.

I would assume there is quite a bit of custome fabrication, but your right not the price of another ITRs worth.

After looking at that picture, I just thought to myself, how the hell do you change the timing belt? Time to pull the engine.

Which co are you ordering from? Any website?
If it comes with a B18C5 with MSRP of $35K, I will buy one!
It is just too expensive now.... I will keep my R for now

I'm sure he must be ordering from a Lotus dealer. Funnily enough, when the current Esprit is discontinued, the Elise is going to be the only Lotus on sale in the US. I am not sure how your average Lotus buyer will react to the Elise - it took me two minutes to get into the damn thing. It is impossible to look dignified getting in or out of this car.

Go to Google's image search page and enter "Lotus Elise". Lots of pictures.

Philip,
How are you? How are things in Va? Anyway, I've been debating many cars for my next purchase. I really like the Z06 alot, but figure I can't really go wrong with a refundable deposit on the elise. I never thought the car would actually make it here, so I jumped when I saw it will. If I think the car isn't good value, I'll just get my money back.

I am not getting the car from sun-international, I placed the deposit with a lotus dealer.

I guess having two B18C5's couldn't be that bad...... I wonder how the elise handles?
