This is a car in my shop. Only 3000 miles on it. Guy(not a kid) accidently went from 5th gear to 2nd....ouch. Lots of holes in the block...plus a rod hanging out!

I dont believe that could happen shifting from 5th to 2nd. The rev limiter would have prevented over-reving.

 

Fl civic you are wrong man. Rev limiters on keep you at a certain rpm while accelarating by cutting timing and fuel. They do nothing what so ever if you mis shift. You blow your block and call honda when that happens.

He's right, it is mechanical over rev. even if you shut the engine it will still over rev if you misshift. Nothing can stop it except not mis shifting or hitting the clutch asap.
