Default a question on suspension technique sway bar

just got the sway bar installed on my car ( 97 accord special edition).

got a serious question about the (suspension technique ) sway bar. How come the two ends of the bars are connected to the control arm by 2 bolts (each about 5 inches long) ??

For those who have suspension technique sway bars, you guys should know what i am talking about. I mean, the bar itself, at two ends, is not connected directly to the control arms. But rather, its connected to a bolt. and the bolt connects to the control arm.

i know how the thickness of a sway bar affects the handling characteristic of the car. But then the two ends of the bar are attached to the frame by 2 bolts.
I am sure many of you knew that "A chain is as strong as its weakest link". Regarless of how think the bar is..... the bolts at the end are just too weak.

sorry for being a noob. Can you experts give some comment on this ??

Not exactly. There are end links that tie the bar into the lca's. But don't forget you have 2 center supports with rubber bushings in them. Simply replacing the bushings with polyurethane ones will stiffen it up noticeably more.

Basic physics:
Since both the lower control arm(s) and the front sway bar rotate thru dis-simular arcs, the ends are traditionally "linked" together because the geometry won't allow them to be bolted together. Don't worry, you'll wear out bushings long before you break that link bolt

ha i put my 91 civic si in a ditch last fall doing like 75, (master cylinder went out and couldn't stop) and i broke a radius rod bent both LCA's and snapped the sway bar clear in two, but didnt even bend the end links a bit. They are still as straight as they were at the factory when they were put on.
