Oil Burning or Clutch or Exhaust or Brake Smell when you run fast?
Ok... my R is getting Old...
I used to think that the Smell that comes after running fast on H-ways (110MPH) and 8800 RPM shift point was because the car is still new...
now... it's still doing the same thing, so my concern is, is this:
1. Oil Burning? (I check, oil level always fine), or
2. Clutch? (I downshift, rev match in corners), or
3. Exhaust? (smell of new Cat back got burnt), or
4. Brakes? (ever since I autoX, I brake real hard when spirited driving)...
Just wondering... I mean, everytime I drive a little faster than an old lady, by the time I got out from the car, it smells... I am getting a bit worried as I intend to keep the R forever....

I have the same thing happen in my Hybrid.
Originally I thought it was the Clutch or Brakes, but now I discovered an exhaust leak right after the Cat...I think it may be that.

ummm... I didn't do mods to the engine yet.. so there might be a crack on the Cat joint? hm.... is this a good excuse to get a Header and Carsound Cat?
Aaah..What's up D? coming here anytime soon??
so it is a Normal thing to happen....umm.. OK...
Next time, I'll cool down the engine before taking the car into the garage...
otherwise the garage smells bad and my roomie complaints...

nope, prolly wont be back in the burg until next christmas...
and i was eluding to my car smelling like brakes/oil/clutch, cause i drive the bitch into the ground all the time.
i wouldn't worry about it.. when you start consuming mucho oil, or your clutch starts slipping, then you think about replacing chit, er, at least i do.

I smell all kind of things, like coolant, engine oil, clutch...etc. It's normal, but it seems to stink more if I push the car at a low mile while in high gears...weird.
And oh, btw, after you change any oil, unless your car ran in the rain or chasis washed, you will smell lots of leftovers when you drive.
It got me to believe that they are normal, my car runs strong for 1 1/2 year now with odors and I won't let it bother me anymore.
If you hit something during a reverse parking, you should have the cats check out.

Ok.. mine is a 2K also, but the 1st owner babied it for only 7K miles in 16 months and I've been driving it for about 14K miles in 10 months, most of the time driving normal, but at times, I drive it like it should..and the smell continue..
Yes, I just changed oil yesterday and the smell is so obvious.....
hmmm...try to follow ZiggySpeed with his 97R... then you'll be smelling something funny...
hehehe

I put a breather on my valve cover and now when get on it I have to make sure to put the vent on recycle or I get a dose of oil vapor.
it's normal. my 01 with 15k miles reeks of burnt oil after long highway trip (2hrs) at 80mph. i like the smell, it means i got my money's worth! i hate the smell of burnt clutch/brakes. the worst is when you're stuck in the nyc subway tunnels and the train that pulls up just got new pads put on - very strong odor.
