Timing
I did a head gasket repair on my own. Cool ****, Im starting to become a honda tech. but the bs is I did not mark or have tdc on cyl 1 before I took out the cams. Im now putting them back in and I want to make sure I dont fak the timing. Im sure none of the cranks or pulleys moved so it should fit a certain way. Any tricks of the trade to know that Im not going to **** up every internal in my car with bad timing. At this point, It was not set to TDC and the cams are going back into the motor. Hit me up soon if you can....Im trying to get this done so I can move out my house.
Cams don't have marks on them, the cam gears have the marks on them. You can only put cams into the cam gears one way. So make sure the TDC mark on the crank pulley is lined up, or the piston in the #1 cylinder is at the top, make sure the marks on the cam gears are pointing straight up and also towards each other on the right side of the exhaust cam gear and the left side of the intake cam gear....its pretty simple.
About the distributor, thats where setting the engine to TDC in the #1 cylinder before disassembling saves a little confusion. Just make sure the rotor is pointing directly at the contact (on the dizzy cap) for the #1 cylinder before you put the dizzy back on. I mean, its not like you will totally screw this up b/c the shaft of the dizzy only fits into the slot in the end of the intake cam 1 of 2 ways. And if you did it 180 degrees backwards you will know as soon as you start the car up. Just make sure to do any adjustments after starting it up with a timing light.

thanks for the helpful info! Im guessing the marks on the cam gears that are tdc are the numbers and they are set to zero. because they are crower adjustable cams. Ill take a look right now and see if I see what you all mean. sounds like I can do it though thanks again.
the dizzy can only go in one way on the cam. one side of the dizzy is thicker than the other and it's the same in the groove of the cam so it only goes in one way. also, to make sure that the #1 piston is at top dead center (and not 180 degress off), look at the oil pump gear and u will see a line on it. line it up with the pointer on the oil pump cover. if u have the timing cover on the motor still, put the woodruff key into the crank and put the crank pulley on. the single white mark on the crank pulley should line up with the pointer on the timing belt cover. once the block has been set for TDC, put the cams with the cam gears attatched onto the head. make sure the UP markings are point n up and that the two lines on the sides of the cam gear line up with each other. put on the cam caps and torque it down. now double check the markings on the gears and put the timing belt on and tension it up
so I have no timing cover and Im not sure what the oil pump gear and cover will look like. Im guessing I have to take out the motor mount to turn the crank pulley. I got the idea of the camshafts down. I just need to figure out how to turn the crank to tdc with out the timing cover

The little key way in the crank should be facing up.
