I just picked up an 88 dx hatch with 400,000 miles on it. I thought the engine was shot but I was wrong, bought a battery for it and started right up. My problem is the car won't idle the rpms go up and down and it gets crazy. I almost forgot paid $200 for it, it needs some body work on the rear quarter panel and the interior is not that great but for what i paid for it you can't beat it. Help me out guys to figure this out, I will try to take some pics as soon as i get a chance thanks alot.

 

well easiest thing to try fiorst make sure the idle speed is set properly,,, accell caqble is not too tight, disconnect plug to eacv valve and idle should drop to aroung 600.....if it stay up could have a bad valve,,it could also be the throttle position sensor,,

 

i forgot to mention 12 more thing make sure that the radiator is filled
