What is the point of that? Is it noise? There are plenty of Dodge Ram trucks and Harleys on the road with factory exhaust systems twice as loud as our aftermarket bits...
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Legislation (H.B. 1330) that would effectively prohibit the use of exhaust systems other than a “factory-installed muffler” or a “muffler meeting factory specifications” has been reintroduced in the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives by Representative Michael K. The sad part is that they probably would pass the law...

I hope they don't pass this law because you know the neighbooring states will start to look into adopting this law ... that would really suck

the point would be it would be an easy way to make fast money. they can go out and pick off all the cars that have it done and make a killing.
Rendell(pa govener) increased patrols of state policea few weeks ago to bring in more money for the state. PA seems to follow CA when it come to alot of the vehicial laws, a few years ago they were trying to install centralized emission stations to have cars put on rollors to see what emissions the cars left at speeds, but these were only put in certian counties.
PA then backed out and was sued and now for 1996 and newer cars theres a newer more strict and expensive emission test being done to pay back the money the state got sued for. but for 150.00 you can get a waver and be emission exempt for a year, hows that help clean air? it dont , you just paid off the state.
it is a bunch of garbage but when you live in a commonweath they get to make up stupid stuff like this all the time to make money for the state.

i know a couple people that got pulled over for their exhaust systems. one was a VW with a techtonics(not to loud) and my sister got pulled over with a N1 on a civic. they were just questioned about them and let go. this was a couple weeks before the state released the statement to the public.
i have a thermal 3" on my R and a world sport with a different muffler on my daily driver integra, so im interested to see whats gonna happen. more than likely its gonna be like the window tint law where there such a gray area about whats legal and whats not it will be up to the officer to decide. im not to worried about it, as long as people dont drive like cornballs there "shouldnt" be any problems, but i guess we'll just have to see what happens with the bill.

At least here they don't make you "fix" it.

yea, i dont think this is gonna be as bad as cali, but making you just pay a fine doesnt fix the noise you are making so its just a money scam. id be curious to see what the ratio of sport compact cars to motocycles(harleys, honda davidsons etc.) is that get stopped for this.

It's illegal to have a modified exhaust in some states.

The VA law/statute reads something to the effect of : "must be of the factory type".
I got stopped entering VA from the North (heading South on 81 into the state) in my first ITR, by a state trooper.
He indicated he was going to give me tickets for: Tint on the front windows, no front plate, radar detector and exhaust (2 1/2" SMSP with a muffler and resonators).
Talked him out of the plate and exhaust tickets, paid the radar detector and tint ones (he had a device to check light transmissivity).
Oh well ....

Give that man an SPL meter and a ride height gauge, and he'd be a regular Rice Patrol!
Who the hell carries a window tint tester?

Ok, correct me if i am wrong on this.
We have a constitutional right along the lines of:
"you can not be charged for an illegal offence before it was illegal."
Hence you can have your exhaust before the law you can get away with having it?

Read above. It's already illegal to have a modified exhaust. It's just not strictly enforced-

**** guys!!! you guys want to talk about illegal exhaust rules....here's one!
I live in San Diego, CA...one of the hotspot for street racing....
and of course because I drive an R I was pulled over on a Monday, 8am on my way to work......now keep in mind that my R is stock...
The officer tells me that he stoped me because my exhaust was loud and looks modified due to the chrome exhaust tip. Somehow we argued because he didnt know what an R was and thought that I was going to a street race.....blablablabla........and so finally I told him that if he can drive me to a local dealership, I can show him what an R is all about.....
This goes to show the extend to which they are willing to go without proper knowlege about japanese imports vehicles with their stupid tickets....
I see M3 with exhaust and lowered....
I see Mercedes lowered with exhaust...
I see Vettes, Porches, Lambo with exhaust + many of them w/o front plates....
but none of those imports gets stopped for the things we get stop for!!! now why is that? I would like to call it "Discrimination". Affraid of what they dont know...but yet dont want to study more in dept about the situation and figure out a solution...
Although San Diego has came up with a different police task force called DRAG-NET who has been trained for our kind of sitution such as exhaust law and so forth, there are still many of the units whom are not trained for this kind of situation and will jump on anything in sight....(I must admit, San Diego is a nice city...but our city counsil is the worst in the country. Ex: Our city mare was rated THE worst in our entire country)

TN just got a muffler law, don't know anything about it though. My friend got pulled over for it, but the trooper said it will probably be dropped.
