well...you can find your capacities in the owners manual

I would highly suggest finding someone to look over your shoulder while you do this for the first time. They can make sure you don't overfill it (arguably worse than underfilling) etc. A honda is not the easiest vehicle to change with the filter on the backside and relatively low ground clearance.

4.5 quarts for the VTEC motor (Accord EX) , 4.0 quarts for the non-vtec. (LX, DX)

you will never fill as much as the capacity states. this is due to leftover oil sitting in random places in your engine. you'll probably fill to half a quart less than capacity, but the best way to check is to use the dip stick when you think you're getting close. fill all the way up to the "full" line. itll drop back down after u start it for the first time, but tahts normal. if u want, after u start it for a while, turn the car back off and add back up to the full line. but yea.. id be best to have someone who's done this before to look over your shoulder. i can tell u now that the absolute worst part of the job is going to be getting the old filter off. if youve never done this before, at least get on google and do some searching about tips and whatnot. leave two hours to finish the job. when u get good itll take u 15min

choosing the right oil is depending on how many miles you have and where you live ( beacuase of climate and temperatures).

i live in california and have about 98000k on my 96 so i use 10-40 conventional oil. i dont really know that much between synthetic and the regular stuff...

with my car, i have the vtec motor, i usualy buy 4 quarts of motor oil and then add a half qaurt of lucas oil additive.
at the auto parts they sell oil by the quart(1 bottle or a whole box) soo just get the amount needed...

also when you change your filter youll have to have a special tool to take it off and youll want one to put it on. when your putting the new filter on to help prevent leaks, and make a better seal, put sum motor oil on the rubber seal on the new filter.

don't over tighten the new filter, 3/4 turn after the seal meshes is all you need...wet the seal as mentioned before

Also you should definitely go with one of the fram suregrip filters or a k&n filter with the nut on the bottom.... regular oil filters can be a real pain to get off with oily hands. The k&n is quite convenient because the 17mm nut is the same size as the oil plug. If you use ramps, make sure to have someone spot you... driving off the end of those ramps is a bad, bad feeling.

another hint- when unscrewing the oil plug, push slightly on it until you feel that it is completely unthreaded, then quickly pull the plug out and up to prevent the stream of oil from soaking your arm. When taking the oil filter off it is a good idea to wrap a rag around your wrist so that any oil runoff is stopped by the rag so that it doesn't run all the way down your arm.

Spray brake cleaner on the exhaust pipe to cool it down in a hurry.

dunt go with fram, K&n is good tho, if u wunna fork up ther extra cash..i used K&n for awhile on my car, and i started having a few probs, the guys at baxter told me it was cuz fram didnt have that anti flow valkve shyt, forgot the name, but yea, oil was draining out of my filter after i shut off my car so i was getting dry start...i personally just stick with honda filters, i kno many people who have built honda motors who still uses honda OE filter, they say they havent had any problems with em so they dunt see a point in using anything else...and i wud say go with synthetic, u get a few horses out of it, not enuff to notice tho, but in the long run it protects better and slytely better MPG(not enuff to notice tho)

Yeah if it is LIT.

The temperature of the exhaust pipe under the oil filter on the accord is always going to be below the flashpoint of brake cleaner.

Also, you can spray the filter itself to cool it down.

Youd be surprised about how well brake cleaner does. I made a 85 Vette quadcam start up on brake cleaner

You should loosen your oil filter first, then take the drain bolt off, then take the filter off. It’s cleaner this way, at least for me.

Fram is garbage, use oem or pure one purolator

When you tighten your oil filter use your left hand or weak hand only. That way next time you change your stuff it won’t be hard to get off.

ive heard of ppl using honda s2000 filters.... also when your draining your oil take off the top of your valve cover so the oil comes out quicker... the break cleaner tip .. was GENIUS...

i always take off my filter after i drain the oil.. is way incorrect? should i take it off before?

S2k filters work fine and of are better quality.

Doesn't matter when you take off filter.
