Yet another one of those "first weld" posts...
Well I've been tig welding for a couple months now, and finally got through all the mild and stainless projects at school. Had about 30 minutes left in class so I grabbed a piece of aluminum, balled up my tungsten and went to town :D Here's what I ended up with...
It's a little dull because silly me hit with the wire wheel  I had a brain fart...
Machine was a Syncrowave 350, set to 120amps, 20hg argon, 7 on the a/c balance, 3/32 2% pure tungsten, 3/32 filler. Material was 1/8" thick 6061.
Anyways I got the feel for it at least and I'll put in a few solid hours tomorrow probably...all comments and suggestions are welcome!
Here is a stainless one I had laying around as well...feel free to comment on this also...

Thanks for the compliments!
I took oxy-acetylene cutting, welding and brazing for a quarter prior to tig. That helped ALOT when it came to switching over to tig. I scored my own machine about a week ago and just got done building my table and everything...I'm having alot of fun
Expensive fun...but definetely fun

Nice job! A little too much on the start of the stainless, but the rest looks great.
What classes are you taking? Community college / boces / trade school?
Keep up the good work, and enjoy the TIG when it gets there!

Community colllege...not a bad program. Biggest thing is I have all the metal and rod I want to burn for 4 hours a night, 4 nights a week
Which community College? Just wondering because Triton is my CC and I can also get to COD if I wanted. I thought about taking something similar in the summer. Just so i can TIG a new turbo mani
.
My personal mig welder i don't think can do the job.

COD is where I go...Triton I've heard has a very good program also. COD requires a quarter of Oxy-acetylene and Welding Theory to get into the advanced courses. I think Triton might be the same way. If you plan on going to COD I would hurry up and get into the summer quarter, in the fall they are changing to trimesters or something and you'll be stuck in oxy and a classroom for that much longer.

ahh.. sucks. Screw it, I'll just end up taking some gen-ed's in the summer instead. MIG will do for now. I know a bunch of guys @ COD though, pretty kickass community college. I guess if i can take a few hours over the summer I can get into a welding class here @ UofI haha... with the rest of the farmboys.
