Hey guys,
I wanna use my cordless drill and get some wire brush attachments to helps speed up the surface prep on the pipes I'm gonna weld. Is there something I should look out for when picking out a wire brush for this job? do I want a wire brush made out of a certain material? Also to clean of any oil from the piping wha'ts the best way to clean it? ie. carb cleaner, rubbing alcohol, soap & warm water, etc?
Thanks

Acetone is gd for taking off oil (nail polish remover).A regular hand wire brush or a round wire brush with a mandrel for your drill would be just fine. They are stainless bristles. And if the mild steel has any mill scale on it, you may need to grind it off.
I would go with the isopropyl alcohol. We use it at work on our circuit breakers and internals when we are doing final connections before oil or SF6 fill.
It will clean the oil and leave no residue.

Do not use the same wire brush/wheel/bench grinder/whatever on both types of material. When you use them on mild steel and then use them on the stainless steel you are making it much easier for surface rust to occur on the stainless steel due to the transfer of mild steel from the brush/wheel/whatever.

Thanks for the input guys, so I guess I'll get two seperate brushes for the MS and SS. I'll also use Isopropyl Alcohol cause I have some of that laying around.
