aWD vs. 2WD in Drag racing
i think awd cars a prone to breakage, once they start getting past the 12's. thing about the awd cars is that there are so many pieces in the drivetrain... and all of them are expensive.
if you think a 500 b series tranny is expensive... wait till you price out an evo transfer case... it runs about 2 grand new, and they are hard to find used.
it might sound like i'm bagging on awd... but i just telling it how it is. my daily driver is awd, and i have no intentions of taking it to the drag strip.

cool thanks, other than that how do you think they would be?, good or bad? just for general dragging purpose? Are they quicker off the line or any little things like that?
launching an awd car requires finesse, if you don't give it enough rpms the engine will bog down. if you can launch an awd correctly, they simply cannot be beat providing that you guys are both on street tires.
my friend has a evo and he just wrecked his transfer case the other week at maple grove. has 300hp and the cost to replace was 2500 i believe. under warranty or whatever but they won't do it again cuz he has aftermarket clutch

i have a friend who is a DSM lover, and he works on a lot of the AWD cars in the area, and he is almost always replacing rear diffs.... one guy broke his rear axle launching at 4500, awd is better street tire to street tire, but at the track, on my slicks my 60 foot times are about as good as the street tire AWD friend of mines
All wheel drive will get you off the line faster on the street, but at the track where you can throw on some slicks on your fwd, thats different. The drivetrain loss at the end of the track with awd will just slow you down.
Yea AWD requires some work. You might think its easy becuase its AWD, but they break alot easier. And yes they are more expensive to fix and find parts for most of the time.
But man when they hook and dont break , they hook hard
Its the initial shock that breaks ****. 2wd or AWD, same thing breaks them
Everything has its ups and downs
Ty , was that Brent that broke? Just curious

i have been driving my 1990 GSX eclipse for 9 months and i am just learning the correct way to "launch" the car. Lemme tell you that it sounds easy but hop in any AWD turbo 5 speed car and give it a try you will be surprised at how hard it is to do it Correctly. But when it is done right forget it AWD owns in take off.

My race car is an all wheel drive eclipse it was a gst but I converted it to all wheel it is a lot better. but a stock transfer case and rear diff is a little week but still can run 11 on stock drive train. just like any race car part's are bound to break and yes DSM break down a lot but make a lot of power with very little money
My friend's stock GSX Run high 12 with only 1000.00 in to the car and that is not Nos.
I would like to add i love my Dsm But Honda is more reliably

You failed english didn't you?
awd > 2wd (on the street)

awd > 2wd (on the street)
On street tires,
AWD > 2 wheel drive
At the track,
2WD > AWD
Why? Because there are always wider slicks, there isnt always a stronger AWD driveline. To add to that, if a car is fast enough to lift the wheels off the ground, AWD is pointless and only adds weight. (this assuming comparing RWD to AWD)
Typical 60ft on awd street tires is a 1.7 around here from what I can tell.

1.7 may be for a stock car or lightly moded. My friend's Talon run 1.5-1.6
on street tires. with street slick's allwheel drive can run 1.3-1.4. its realy all about the set up. if you are useing 2 step you can get you 60 foot down a lot

hmm...if thats the case noone around here in an AWD car knows how to drive. (which isnt outside the realm of possibility)
1.3-1.4 has GOT to be lifting the front wheels off the ground though surely...

all wheel drive is awsome for off the line, but liike said up top put slicks on fwd an its good on the track as awd. ive got a 02 wrx an stripped first gear an broke an axle. well i htink i did still tryin to figure out exactly. but once you can launch awd its feakin awsome the pull off the line is crazy
