new class at cmi modified street power! rules format for discussion!
In June we are hoping to introduce a new class for all peeps who want to run there car at the 11 and 10 second range! we are setting a new standard for street class rules. instead of all this arguing about who has what in there car we will be sponsoring a new class for street all motor that will be equaled up by allowing anyone to run in this class weather it rear glass or heater core or even cut doors. being that all cars weigh different from the factory we will be keeping it real any car can enter as long as it has no lexan front window or one piece front end. we will be setting it up so there will be a minimum weight of around 1850 to 1950 pounds because we all look for grey areas to bend this cant be bent all street a/m cars will be required to drive to the scales and weigh in and stick to a basic format that we decide and find a medium thats fair! I of all people understand that its hard to make a integra or any of the heavy cars light and its not fair for someone to bring a hatch or crx stock and come in way under the weight that other cars could so he who pulls the weight should be able to pull the trophy and wins are what count and all this bickering should stop because lets look at it like this, fair competition is fair competition, the pro cars all must weigh in and lets see what all of you do when we are a litlle closer together in all fairness. who cars who has what and lets see if nor cal of so cal is boss! there is no way of making it more fair and ill tell ya what nor cal racers will be be sponsoring this class so if so cal thinks they can take our money then come n get it! also there will be minimum weights for fast 8 racers also following either nopi or nhra guideline because it suck to go lose to a car that weighs 1500 to 1600 pounds which is below the normal guidelines. I tired of some people taking advantage of cmi's like a pay check! look at my car full uni body over 1700 pnds running 10.62 with less than 300 fwhp and other cars running at 1625 or lower doing sub 10.20 passes! Im not trying to start **** but put your weight back into your car and even it up a bit and we will see what happens then. because it alot easier to add weight then cost everyone alot of money to replace what is already missing! this should be a huge arguement but if you want to shut up everyone this is how we will do it!
chad i agree with you on the weight thing. But just to clarify on Erick's behalf he was at or even alittle over NOPI weight. And we all know that NOPI has the fairest rules. Hell i'm with you I'm 1700lbs too it sucks being over weight(i'm 90lbs heavy for NOPI and 25-50 for NHRA) but its find a way to take out more weight or make more power.
to you thought for the street class deal it will be cool to see street cars go at it at about the same weight it will really see who has more power. Even though im NORCAL i'm gonna have to give to Albert Rios i think he's gonna be on top.

your the first on my list cloyse.....
honestly its alot simpler it cuts out alot of the politics and pissing matches that occur with the "street" class....no grey areas...top 8 fastest f/i car and top 8 fastest n/a cars no ifs, ands, or buts......

this makes me wanna move to cali these are about the same numbers I wanna run with my turboed b18c1 in a delsol setup ( does anybody need a roommate?)
so what about a turbo street class for sfwd type cars? i always thought it was kinda wack how turbo street cars would have to race with full race cars... a couple years back, i remember when i just used to be happy to qualify for the quick 8 in my street car... only to be elminated the first round by someone with a crx with a one piece front end and wheelie bars.

What about the non 10 and 11 sec. street cars? I think weight is a good idea for all. would be nice to have a 12 sec class with good rules. I like the botie rules.
Hold on a second here. Is this going to be a "modified" rule version of the Street Power class, or is this going to be a new addition to that class as well?
I agree with Andy here on this one. With a lot of the Nor Cal guys stepping up and putting together some good turbo street cars, we shoudl start to think about a class geared for them. There is nothing wrong with looking at the other santioning bodies and taking little tidbits from them. Break it up give these racers around here something they feel they have an equal chance to win. As for myself I do not run my car at Sacramento, I enjoy the traveling and meeting the other people in my class from all over the place. The reason for that is the way that you get that nice "even playing field" feel of the event. Sure you still have to try and qualify, and if you don't well back to the brackets or rack it on the trailer and watch for the rest of the weekend.
As far as weight and all these other issues between the uni-body/back half cars, that is something that you guys (CMI/Tony/etc) should probably just wait until next season to change. That way a committee even if it is a volunteer committee, can get together during the off-season and put together rules that will be followed and enforced, and the classes. If Tony thinks he will be continuing this thing (CMI) then that is what will really help it out. That way going into the 2006 race season there will be no questions. It will all be spelled out, no grey area.
I wish you guys the best of luck on this.

hmm, i guess the problem is that it can get kind of out of hand if everyone wants their own specific class. i mean where does it stop? the "4 door civic with a green bumper, drum brakes, 1.6 sohc with i/h/e" heads up class?
but there has to be something to get people to come out to cmi again. last weekends turn out was pretty good, but it wasn't like cmi in 1997. whether or not it will ever be again i don't know.
the SP class looks like a really good start, lots of competition. i guess its not that big of a deal if there's no street turbo class. being that the car that won was a SFWD del sol.

I think it's a good idea to set a minimum weight and make everyone weigh in, but I think you might wanna set it a little higher so it's easier to achieve. Because people that want to leave their car legal for other street classes are gonna be over that weight that you listed (1850). Or most will depending on chassis.
I'm just saying that if the min. weight is too low then SoCal racers that wanna come up and race are gonna have to pull their glass and put in lexan, etc. just to be competitive with the NorCal cars that only run CMI.
But if you set a reasonable minimum weight then the cars that are too light can just add some chunks of lead or something. I know some people like to run the car cut the **** up and lexan'd for when they dip it on the street
But yeah either way a minimum weight will cut the bullshit and arguing. Can't argue with a digital scale (or at least that's what my dealer says lol

i liked the first street performance rules that they used to have......a street class with full glass and doors......no index's fastest/luckiest guy wins......
thats racing.... if someone outruns the rest of the pack he did his job...the rest of the class should have to work harder to keep up......
as far a weight goes.....someones will always make the power to make the difference

thank you cloyse and i believe erick is 1625 at nopi and who knows when he's at cmi and no disrespect to erick he might be lighter or not i know he's capable of 10.0 passes so i dont want anyone to think im singleing out erick but it sucks to have to race him at such a lighter wieght but i need to spend money more money on lighter parts or more power. anyways i think this weight issue is a very good way to show set up, power, and driver skills on the only even way to keep it real!
I agree on the wiegth deal . I personally have not run my car in competition at CMI for a few years now , for this very reason . Tony's thing is race what you brought , but we as all the pro class do need a scale of rules to go by . After each CMI , there is always a thread on H-T arguing about time , who this and who that .
Like someone has said ealier , CAN'T COMPLAIN WITH RULES .
Rob , the tech guy is a certified NHRA tech guy . He can do all the techs for the pro-class

that is exactly what i was thinking to the tee.
i'm just thinking to run the same rules as nopi's comp 4(a/m street)
it's gonna be too much of a hassle for all the people who run
the all motor street class to do all that stuff to be competitive in
that class as their cars are already set up for comp 4 status.
i'm sure you should have enough cars to run that class as i know
you will get a lot more peeps from so cal to run.
just my two cents.

I think for the street class we should follow NOPI rules. I would like to see more so cal cars come up and I think they would if we had these rules in place.
NOPI rules would be the best to follow. They are already made and all some one has to do enforce them. Personnaly i kind of like the run what ya brung mentality in the pro class, no politics if you know what i mean.

sounds good to me.....

i think the the weight should be around 1850 to 1950 no lexan at all just to make it look more streetable and just strip the **** out of the interior to reduce weight, as long you dont go under weight it should be cool to use fuel cell, cut doors, no carpet,no seats just the drivers i dont know you guys have the last word..but yeah i agreed with atrain abouth having a new class so no one cant bitch anymore..
we should just make it simple... have the quick 8/fast 8 with weight requirments. then have a heads up turbo street class(sfwd/t4), then a heads up all motor street class. and follow the nopi rules.

its' the way to go..
less hassle, easy to understand = more peeps.

that is the best idea, then you dont have 1000 people running around trying to set up a field of rules, and everyone can base their cars off of rules that are already set. if you tried to make a set of rules with everyones opinions, that **** would get way out of hand. pick the best set of rules, and base cmi sp off of that.
i think the turbo streetcars have a legitimate chance at winning the quick 8.....you wouldnt see full fields for Q8 if you split them up

you guys also have to remember that more classes will hit tony more in the pocket books.....
bell we have already said if tony cant find a sponser for the class we would sponsor it between a couple shops who have already agreed to do it!
I like the direction you are going. It will come down to the driver and power plant, and not give a huge weight advantage to the CRX's and Hatches. My coupe still weighs almost 2,000 lbs
