xenon light question
What the heck size is H10 what uses it? I have never heard of it. Those arnt Nokya bulbs in that pic are they? All the ones I have seen have been tinted blue not clear like those.
From my understanding, H11s and H10s are new bulbs, one of which I think is for a VW's (forgot which car) foglights.
The fact that they are H10s or H11s has nothing to do with color...

for you xenon bulb users, what is your opinion on their projection?
I've heard some debate that you can see further but they don't light up the road as well. What's do you think and is it worth the cost? I don't care about aftermarket headlights and making heads turn, I just want the best bulb.

^^^ Save for HID's. Thats all i can say when people want to spend cash on improving visibility with new headlights...the best "bulbs" (halogen) dont even compare, theres been some comparisons of the Silver Star bulbs in certain projectors being rather impressive, but i have to say...i will never own a car without HID's.

HIDs are the best upgrade, i've gone through 4 different types of bulbs before I went HID. 4300-5300k is the best range. Some stock housings are good (if the bulb is shielded) but i'd make sure to invest in a good set of OEM projectors and do a total retrofit so you dont get glare and blind oncoming traffic.

Can I get an OEM replacement for my 96 EX that has the little reflector for xenon? Also I know I've read some stuff on xenon bulbs drawing a lot of power and doing screwy stuff with your electronics.
What about a reflector? You talking about Xenon as in halogen bulbs you would buy from best buy or somewhere like that that say Xenon or are you talking about real HID Xenon? Real HID's should be fine for your wiring since you have to rewire them. Regular Xenon bulbs should be ok unless you go with higher wattage ones then you either need to get a wiring harness for high wattage bulbs or the are very likely to melt your wiring. You can get reflectors from BMW's or Nissans or whatever has HID's and retro fit them into your housings if thats what you are talking about.
so many misconceptions out there.... seems like only accordselux knows anything about hid
get on google, do some basic searches about how HIDs work. "xenon" is a widely used misnomer there days. some halogen bulb manufacturer "inject" the bulb with xenon gas, which doesnt do jack squat because its the filament thats doing the lighting, not the xenon gas. in HID (as we SHOULD call it), there is no filament, and its actaully the electron emissions from the xenon atoms that are creating the light. temperature range that will create the most lumens is 4100-4200, though occassionally youll see OE HID go up to 5300. the higher you go, the more blue the light will become, and the more glare you will produce, and it also tends to fatigue your eyes more quickly.
IMO, HID in stock reflector housings are a waste of time and money. if youre going to planning to spend the 150-200 for a HID conversion, wait until you have afew hundred extra to do a complete projector housing retrofit into your headlight housing. the s2000 projectors are among the best out there, along with lexus gs. dont buy those cheap aftermarket projectors, theyre crap. you want to look for clean cutoff lines, in order to minimize glare.
and no, xenons dont draw more juice, they draw LESS. a 35w HID bulb will put out more lumens than any 65w halogen out there, hands down.
bottom line: make sure u do some good searches before you buy ANYTHING.
btw, in case any of you want more details, heres a good site that explains most of what i mentioned above: http://www.intellexual.net/hid.html

depending on the kit, anywhere from 250-600...you can get aftermarket kits that you don't need to retrofit, however i personally retrofitted projectors in my oem housings and hids...much better output than oem reflectors i must say...

how'd you manage to do that? And how much are we talking for the bulbs alone?

hey schmitey.. the retrofitting is a pretty involved process that involves removing the housing and the housing cover, drilling some big holes to fit teh projector lenses on.. and the such. i found a link on google a while ago that showed how to do it on a different car.. ill link it back if i can find it again.
as for cost.. the bulbs alone (plus the ballast, which u need) should cost 150-200, depending on which brand u get. i recommend phillips for the bulbs, and hella for ballasts. theres another good name for bulbs, i cant remember off the top of my head.
shorti, no offense intended. i wasnt directing the general knowledge at you, sorry if seemed to insult your intelligence. i wrote a lot bc i wanted to touch upon everything that seemed unclear in the earlier posts. i wanted to put out the general info for others who stumble upon the thread.
