Yes, I know it's ugly as hell - but it would much cheaper on consumables (brakes/tires/etc.) than my prelude. I'm asking because my buddy found me a fully prepped (with EMRA logbook) Geo Strom gsi 1.8L for a ridiculously small sum of cash. (ground controls/illuminas/camber plates/nascar cage/omp seats/good motor) What do you guys think of this car for ITB?
Can you find out it's race history/placing? Might give you an idea. Although, it could be a great car with a lousy driver, or a substandard car with a Boris Said type driving it. If it was dead last all the time, I might steer clear of it just for the black cloud that may be following it.
theres a cople threads about the geo/suzuki in IT.com in the "OTHER" manufacturer forum. go way back in the history. it does seem like a good base to be a good car.
There's a guy who races a Geo Metro at Bonneville. He owns damned near every record in the book from 1-1.5 liters. He uses the three cylinder Metro engine for the 1-liter classes and a four cylinder, twin cam Suzuki engine for the 1.5-liter classes. Bolts right in. Cheap as hell. He loves 'em.

It's one of the ones on my running list of "hrm, that looks interesting." If memory serves, it gets to run light and has 1800cc displacement. It should also have vastly better aero than the Volkswagens. It also has an advantage over much of the front of ITB in that it wasn't built in the 1970s or early 1980s. To me, I think it's got potential. IF, and this is a big if, you can find go-fast bits for them without having to shell out money for custom fabbed stuff.
Isuzu Impulse of the same era, just as a side note, was available with all wheel drive and boost. I always kind of had a thing for those.

working off memory so forgive if info is wrong. DOHC 1.8l TOYOTA motor? Parts from Corolla FX16/GT-S should bolt right up; maybe some MR2 also?

Here is one for sale you might want to ask him about the negatives and postives

as I said, memory sucks! Thanks for correction

That link is for a Prism, a Corolla knockoff. Still though, another interesting ITB choice.
ITB is getting interesting. You have the Volvos...lots of motor and RWD, but not much brakes and impossibly bad aero. You have these untapped cars, like the Storm and the Suzuki. And in the middle you have VWs of varying age. Or the 88-91 Accord that just got moved back to B and is nasty fast. Then there's the possibility that SCCA could put the 88-91 Civic/CRX DX into ITB (which personally is what I will build should that happen).
Interesting class this ITB.

Yeah, it really is.
Lots and lots of competition and a nearly as cheap as ITC price to play. Actually, if you pick the right car it can be as cheap as ITC. I can't imagine that a Suzuki Swift is very hard on consumables at what... 1800lbs?
Volvos are the other end of the spectrum. Nasty HP (in comparison to the class) and RWD but its stinkin' heavy.
I'm thinking ITB is going to be the class for smart people who want to have fun racing but not spend their retirement doing it. Of all the classes that got a boost from the recent reclassing, I think B might end up being the big winner.

Me too. Wasn't the suspension designed by Lotus?
I'd be interested in seeing how a Geo would do in ITB.
