70mm throttle body too much?
Hey guys,
My friend just bought a 98 civic coupe with a type-r swap. It has a "true" 70mm throttle body on it (unlike a Spoon TB, the plate is 70mm as well as the 'inlet'). I have yet to test drive it myself but I watched him drive it before he bought it and it was obviously difficult to get into 1st due to the overwhelming throttle response. He said that merely resting your foot on the gas slightly would cause the rpms to hit 3-4k. He has had the car for maybe 15 hours now and called me saying that it feels as if the clutch is starting to go and not grabbing due to him having to ride it to get into gear (all gears affected from what he said).
My question is, for those of you guys with larger diameter throttle bodies...have you experienced the same thing? & do you think his clutch could have really gone to **** in less than a whole day? (I think its just in his head).
He's considering going back to a stock type-r throttle body because of this. Damn, I won't be in town to drive the car until Saturday!
Cliff's Notes: 'true' 70mm TB on b18c5 -> hard to get into 1st -> could clutch be gone in less than a day?
Thanks in advance guys!
p.s. I'm going to be doing a photoshoot of this n/a beast in a few days. Keep a look out in the appearance section. I'll post something in here as well!!!

how many miles on the engine? how many miles on the clutch? depending on how strong the motor is, the stock clutch combo might not be able to take that amount of power.
and i don't think a 70mm throttle body will be the sole cause of the clutch going bad, if anything the 70mm throttle body will make it sluggish.
anybody else ?

Get another clutch, throttle body will have no affect on this. I have same sized tb and using a stock oem honda clutch right now. btw if he wants to fix the gas pedal so it won't rev so high easily, he can adjust the tb, but if you don't know what you're doing, don't do it at all.
Ey, that could be it. He's definitely not great. I'll have to drive it for myself. I think its just a mental thing or the clutch was already pretty worn.

not so. my H22 loves teh 70mm as compared to the stock TB. better response in all gears too.
it sounds to me like the clutch is toasted. that would make it even harder to get started from a stop. and slip in every gear change.

ya but thats an h22 wich is quite a bit bigger than a b18c5 and do you have anything done to your motor ?? on a stock motor 1.8 a 70mm is overkill imo

yes, i do. but back on topic...
you may be right. the displacement of the 2.2 may make up for the greater volume being utilized.
i still think the guy needs to get a new clutch then come back and see us.
