Default Question on theft of Type R's

Do you think the theft of a Type R is an "impulse" thing, or would it be more planned? Do you happen to just drive by the wrong person?? Since it seems most are stolen at home, it sounds like they are planned. But some of use have had our Type R's for years (including me) what makes them just steal now, instead of 5 months ago? Did I happen to drive by the wrong person on the road and they tracked me down? And for those stolen in malls and such, it almost seems like an impule thing, like they're driving through the parking lot and bam, Type R, let's take it?? I'm sure many people have seen my Type R in the driveway and word would have gotten out by now. Amazing how people can have their Type R for 4 years and then one day no more. Kinda scary to think somebody could be following my every step right now, but they won't strike until next month or so.
Soooo, I was just curious as to what everybody thought. Planned? Impulse? Just wrong place at wrong time? Just looking to hear some opinions.

Planned for the most part (residence).

The soulless, lowlife thieves are shopping. There is a demand they're trying to supply. Either it's a specific immediate demand and they make a shopping list, or they see the car, know what is popular with the "rollin on 5 lug" crowd, and take it then (shopping mall) to satisfy future demand.

Wow. R u serious?

They are definately planned. Type R's have chipped keys. You can't just hot wire them. They need to have the proper equipment to get away with it.

I wont say what equipment for those dumbass kids that may get a light bulb in their head...

definitely planned unless they don't care about being caught and thrown in jail. most have a little bit of common sense to try to NOT get caught.

as for mall parking lots, I would think they they drive around looking for a good pick then ****** it.

as for the garages/homes that they break into, I would bet money they they have watched the car and house for a while to survey the situation.

and as for school lots... I bet the thieves got a call from someone who attends there.

well i've been with a friend who got his type R stolen when it was in a lot filled wit 4 other Type R's(including mine) and 2 EK with swaps blocking all the type R's except his caR and another R which just happens to have gotten stolen earlier this this. The thing that got me was the fact that we all parked behind a Walgreen in Chinatown while we went to get something to eat(35-45min). It just so happens that the car with the most invested into it got stolen. In This is case i would have to say impulse because someone had to have gotten followed with all the attention that a ITR would get and there wasn't a Bright blingy PY itr with us.

I say "Man its just a car!"

hard to accept but that is the sad truth

Also, things have just gotten worse lately. For example, until about a year ago, I drove my car freely to work, grocery store, gym, sometimes parked it on the driveway if stuff was going on in the garage, etc. I wasn't careless, like going to the mall or whatever, but at least I could drive the car pretty regularly.

But then, over the last year, thefts just went thru the roof. **** started disappearing from people's driveways, garages, workplaces, nowhere is safe now.

So, my car hasn't been driven for weeks. In the rare occasions that it gets driven, I'm super careful not to get followed home, I got eagle eyes everywhere. I figure, as long as thieves don't know where I live, and car is garaged, then it's pretty safe.

yeah, ive been the same with my R. Now it is locked up in my garage, in a house my family recently purchased, so not even my good freinds know how to get to my house anyways! Not to many "ricers" around the area, one old man with a blue evo who tailgaits ppl like a jerkoff.

I never let the R out of my sight. Period. Unless, I have no choice. Then I tell myself not to worry, because if it gets jacked, I will make sure that insurance replaces it with ANOTHER 2001 Black DC2R.

Yea, I guess I'd have to agree with 330R's comment. Maybe not so much driving by the wrong person but more so of there not being a "demand" for the Type R at this very second. Scary to think my Type R is probably on a list somewhere and could be gotten if needed. *shurgs* I was just wondering like if it's stolen at a mall or something, there's no way they "planned" on you driving to the mall that time and day (possible I guess), so it almost seemed like an impulse thing.

I'm going with high demand (definatly planned) for the 5 lug. I see more crappy Civic's w/ 5 lug conversion's then I see ITR's anymore.
