Default ATTN:NSX owners.

I have never driven an NSX except for under perfect track conditions. What is the car like in heavy rain? Or through Snow?

The reason I ask is because I have been considering getting one used of course and seeing what I can do with it.

I have driven an Mr.2 Turbo in the rain and it's MR configuration makes it tail happy. Do any of you experience the tail-out phenomenon often?

The big variable is the tires, not the car. There are a lot of different tires on the market. There are several tires that come OEM on the NSX, including the Yokohama A022H and the Bridgestone RE010. These are sticky, great-handling high-performance tires which are a joy on the street as well as on the track. They do just fine in the rain as long as they have plenty of tread; when the tread wears down close to the treadwear indicator bars, though, they can get slippery.

High-performance tires like the OEM tires are designed to operate in warmer temperatures, which is why they're sometimes called "summer tires". Most NSX owners store their cars when it gets snowy. If you intend to drive an NSX in snow, ice, or frigid temperatures (even on dry roads), you should get a set of winter tires, along with an extra set of wheels to make it easy to swap each season.

I've never considered my NSX "tail happy". But I don't drive it stupidly, either.

Stupidly = driving beyond your limits, "at ten tenths". Drive stupidly, and you can get any car to spin.

I had my NSX in the slush on Kumho 712s with lots of tread.... It wasn't a good thing. But manageable as long as you've got some car control skill and took it easy. In the rain I have no problems whatsoever. Kinda fun to let the back end wiggle a little. The diff can feel a little funny in the rain sometimes, though. That might be specific to my car, though. Like I have to wait for the diff to lock up before putting too much power down.

A disclaimer, though, is that I've got non-factory springs, shocks, swaybars, wheels, and tires. I've never driven it stock (it had lowering springs with dead shocks and non-factory tires when I bought it).

That's the kind of info I was looking for.

And I agree,I like to make the back end of the Supra "wiggle" a little bit. The RX-7 was a little better because it has a VICOUS LSD.

Right, the biggest variable is gonna be tires. Yokohama went thru something like 600 sets to get the right compound for what Honda was asking. I've driven mine (equipped w/ nonOEM's) in heavy rain and it seemed fine. Just like any car, not wanting to hydroplane, you drive slower. Driving thru light snow wasn't too bad either, just take your time expeditiously. Don't do any of the above if you're on competition tires though.

I don't find the NSX tail happy at all. You can get the tail out if you really want to. It's got a good amount of rear toe-in to keep the back planted. The NSX is sensitive to snap oversteer when overcorrected - just like most MR designs. Of course, you can change the alignment settings, tire pressures, sway bar, etc. to suit your driving style on the track. I like to dial out understeer as much as possible.

Just an FYI - I bought a spare set of '91-'93 wheels and some Nitto 450's came with them. Man, those tires SUCK! I can't burn them off, I can't insult them enough. Those suckers are like riding on concrete marbles. I bought some replacement Yok's but thought I'd use these up before I mounted the OEM Yok's. Well, one track event and 10,000 miles later I CANNOT tell a significant loss in treadwear. Hey, if someone wants long tread life then these tires are the poo but if you want traction you're better off rolling on just the wheels. Ick.

Yeah tell it to him Ponyboy !!!

BTW, The Z06 is a cheaply built car! Walk up close to one of these and look at the craftsmanship. Check out the Rubbermaid-inspired interior and engine head cover. Pay attention closely to the weather-stripping and molding--they resemble dried bubbled foams spray-painted black. Swing the doors open and watch the door squeaks and dangles back and forth like a broken kitchen swing-out door. The body panels don't even match up (gaps too wide or too narrow and uneven in some parts) and the paint jobs were mediocre at best, with excessive orange-peel look to it..... I think $58,000 + is WAAYY too overpriced for such lousy craftmanship.... And on top of that you have to deal with reliability issues...... noW ABOUT THE nsx, well, lemme tell ya......

LOL what ZO6 where you looking at? Was it one that had previously been wrecked? Comeone, are you blind? If the ZO6 oranycorvette for that matter was SO horriably made than why do they out sell the NSX? Well it can't be for the "poor" craftmanship of the cars, can't be cause there slow? Hum what could make so many people buy the corvette? Can you answer that for me ZANARDI?

haterice,

Why do you come here to the NSX forum? You obviously don't have an NSX. Do you come here just to abuse the NSX owners here? Why?

Most of the people who hang out on car boards do so because we want to have a good time sharing information with people who have the same car they do. I may think my car is faster than another model - let's say the Pontiac Aztek - but I wouldn't think of going onto a Pontiac Aztek board to say "my car is faster than yours nyeh nyeh nyeh". That's not what these boards are all about.

So my suggestion to you is that, if you really like the Z06 and you don't like the NSX, you should be spending your time on a Z06 board, talking about the Z06, and not here looking to spread your hate around. Maybe you could find something to like there. Who knows? You might even end up losing the "hate" from your name, as well as from your attitude.

Everyone else,

I would suggest not answering the questions from the troll, since he's not interested in a rational discussion...

LOL ok, your pretty smart..when did I ONCE say anything bad about the nsx? I said there very nice cars, and quick. Yeah I may not have an nsx and I wouldn't spend 80+ grand for a car ever! Well maybe a viper, but this isn't a viper forum either so I'll keep my mouth shut about ANY other car in the world that doesn't pertain to the NSX. The man asked a simple question and I had a simple answer

UM... they sell more because they make a ton of them and sell them for a lot cheaper, and the build qaulity shows.

If thats the case, Im gonna get a new 2002 SVT Cobra and smoke the new Z06s *** with minimal mods. Suck on that one for awhile. The money I save on the now over priced Z06 vs a new 2002 Cobra with 390HP is more than 10Gs.

Why has haterice been banned I hope not for what he said here, everyone has right to an opinion.

And yes the picture of the clown shoe and Viper are originally from NSX Prime. This type of comments gets brought up a lot there. I just thought it was funny so I wanted to share.
