I hear the "K" motor doesn't have a timing belt but is instead a chain. How do I tell what motor she has? I also have a 99 and would like to know how I can tell exactly what motor it is. I always hear the F22 F23 stuff, how does one know?

 

you can tell what it is by looking at the code stamped into the block at the front near the header

 

^^^ This is correct. But so you know, your wife's is a k24 and yours is an f23 (assuming both of your cars are 4-cyl).
