I remember somewhere that there are modded obd2's.
However this is where before the inital program is burned on the obd2 ecu...they jus go ahead and burn the modded prog. However u cant do anything after that.
I think i saw it on this site... so its in some thread

Modifying Honda's 96 - 01 OBDII ecu is next to impossible. If you want to be able to burn a program, you will need an OBD-1 ecu like a P28 or P72 GSR ecu that you can chip, along with an adapter harness.

Do a search, this has been covered many times. Also, you may want to search the forced induction forum, where this is more common.

It is possible to purchase sealed OBDII ecus that have been reprogrammed (such as the uber rare Mugen and Spoon Ecu's) but these will cost an arm and a leg.

Also, I think that you can contact Kenji - he sells reprogrammed ecus and might even burn you a custom program as well...

Cheapest route? OBD-1 P28 that has been socketed, adapter harness, and programmed with Uberdata.

I would agree with above about the cheapest way, that is what I'm using right now a p28 with harness and running uberdata. It is really not all that expensive, you can get a socket p28 for around 125 sometimes cheaper, harness you can usually find for under 100 and uberdata is free. Here is a link to a guy selling what you need

yeah uberdata is free, but if you want to burn chips and tune yourself there are other things you would need to buy like a burner, wideband etc which still comes out fairly cheap considering all the other expensive options out there. If you were to just get it tuned from someone else would be even cheaper.

I saw that RM deal and was thinking of jumping on it. Not sure what they mean by 'custom RM chip'. Do I plug that into my obd2 ecu or do I gotta buy an obd1 P28 to make it work?

Sorry to thread jack, just curious.

To make it relavent, I've heard that customizing an obd2 ecu is an absolute PITA, if even possible

It is completely possible. i used to own a OBD2a P72 that was reprogrammed by UPRD (Under Pressure Research Development). They later became Techtom. They are still around and offer the service.

Your only looking at about $200 max for a conversion harness AND a chipped P28 that is ready to go.

We sell the harnesses. Look in the classifieds for a P28.

This is correct.

Although the cost of the obd2 chips is really high, iirc.....

Techtom is the only company that I know of who does this type of service... pricey!

Here:
go to this site, look for a 92-95 civic EX or SI ecu. there are about 100 listed for less than 100 bucks. It can be a 5 speed or even an automatic P28. If it is an Auto, you will need to add a jumper on the board (easy).
http://www.car-part.com/
Craig Moated sells the chipping hardware here:
http://www.moates.net/
he also sells the burner (the burn 1) which works great
Get the Harness from JDMshit.com, it is only 80.00 there.
Uberdata is free here :http://uberdata.pgmfi.org/
any other questions, IM me if you want...

got you in for less than 200.00
