Default Question on 93-94 CBR 900RR

After looking around for a Honda Shadow for the past few weeks, finally got to test one out today. I can see how fun it would be for a long haul, but around town, I think I'd like one a bit more manuverable.

So, long story short, I started looking for a 600, and stumbled onto some 900RR's. I just fell in love with the 93-94 design. Retro looking headlights with the sleek racer stance won me over. Yeah, yeah, I know looks aren't everything, but there's not really too much price difference between these and the 600's.

I was just wondering, as I'm going to look at a couple this week, do these have any sort of known problems? I know the general things to check for when shopping for bikes, but if there's something that's specific to the model years noted above, please let me know. Thanks.

I think they had oil starvation problem after long wheelies but that probably won't be a problem unless you decide it will be.

My buddy had a 98 900rr last season and let me ride it a few times. They seem very easy to ride. Not twitchy or difficult to turn. An older SS is a little heavier tough. Something to be aware of. If you're a biginner, the lighter the bike, the less chance that you'll drop it during "parking lot" manoveures.

Good luck!

just to let you know 93-95 came w/ 898cc and 96-99 came w/ 919cc. Not really any known problems, just ask to see if the carbs have been cleaned recently and check for any oil leaks around the head/valve gasket.

not really a 93-94 specific problem but on all cbr 900rr's they came with a 16" stock front wheel. This off size as most other front rims are 17" may limit tire choices. Most people used a front rim off an f3 to get to the 17" as it is a direct replacement. Also from what I understand, most parts on the 900rr's are compatible so it is not uncommon to have the newer bodykit on older 900rr's, or the 919cc motor in the older bikes as well.

As previously mentioned about the oil pickup being located in a poor position for stunting, I hear an extra quart of oil will cure starvation problems. It is a popular stunt bike and I have seen tons of people rock slow stuff on em with no problems and they claim to have added only an extra quart of oil.

Heck it's a honda.... you cant go wrong there.

Thanks for all the inputs, guys.

I'm not a begginer, but I'm not an expert either. I've primarily ridden cruisers and dirt bikes. The oil starvation won't be a problem, since I don't do wheelies. (ok, ok, I CAN'T do'em ) Looks like most of these bikes have over 20k miles on them. What's about the average life expectancy of these engines before a rebuild?

Also, no 600's came with that same headlights, right? If not, is it hard to get some 900 headlights and switch them over? Thanks in advance for any kind of advices.

EFz6er - That's a pretty cool bike. I'd look into buying it, but I'm a Honda guy. Kawasaki's are sweet, though.

I have never heard of oil starvation problems. I have been told that the 9rrs are the only bikes that u can walk wheelies on and won't hurt the engine. Have u noticed in all of the stunt videos most of the bikes are 9rrs? I have a feeling it's not just because these bikes are wheelie prone. I have even seen some where the engine is reved up while the bike is sitting on its tailight. And there's some where they are walking it for miles at a time!!!
I only do power wheelies in first gear, conservative me.
I'm gonna check with my mechanic on this he specializes in 9rrs.
