Default ECU help please

My car had been detonating weird and sometimes losing all throttle presure it seemed. Sometimes I could be flooring it and it wouldn't respond it would just start detonating and backfiring it seemed. The shop I took it to said there scanner couldnt read my ECU. They tried multiple scanners. Its a Type-r. Bottom end is built with a stage 2 drag turbo kit on it with a 94 GSR ECU. Could my ECU be completely dead? I have no idea any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Did you tell them it's a 94 GSR ECU, which isn't OBD2? I'm not sure that jack still works with an ECU conversion.

Get any codes out of the CEL?

Good luck.

I just got it back from them. The guy there was to lazy to take the Kick panel off to find out it was an older ECU its a 95 GSR not 94. Yeah his scanner didnt work because of that so im taking it to the honda perfomance place around here that does the tuning on it and let them do it.

That would be your first clue to LET OFF THE GAS! Detonation is not so good.

Did you get a check engine light? You can still get a code out using a paperclip:

Well duh of course i got right off the gas when it did that. That seems like alot of extra work just to get the ECU code. I think ill let the Tuner shop do it. It needs to be Dyno tuned anyways its been a while. Thanks for the help I appreciate it very much.

Ha! It takes 30 seconds once you learn to do it. It's a very valuable diagnostic tool. Quit being lazy and diagnose your car.

p.s. You have a turbo honda, you've gotta expect these things sometimes

I do expect it. It's been turboed over a year now. This is really the first major problem ive had suprisingly. Last it dynoed it put 336.73 down @11psi. Weather has been shitty. Ill probably do it this weekend I have some other things I need to get done for it. I dont know why the shop wouldnt have tried that. He was scared to even test drive my car he said. I dont believe him though cuz it had 30 more miles on it than when I dropped it off which ticked me off a little.
