I think L3 could designate all the different 5-speeds, and the rest is a serial number. A good way to find out is to record your speed in each gear at 5KRPM, then have one of the math gurus here figure out the gear ratios.

all 4th gen Ds i've seen were L3 I think as far as I know all were just L3 with differnt ratios.
