Failed smog with my B16 (numbers included)
well i decided to tackle getting the b16 smogged today.went to the station that passed my jrsc d16z6 and they told me to go to a test only. went to a test only prepared for them to say we cant do it thats not the right motor, but they didnt. instead they tested it and it failed. here are the numbers, what is the CHEAPEST way i can get it to pass.
----------- Co2----O2 -------HC(ppm)----------CO(%)-----------NO(ppm)
-------------------------MAX---GP--MEAS--MAX-MEAS--MAX--GP----MEAS
15 mph---14.2---.7 ---134---308--211 ----.82---.54---847--2070--2883
25 mph---14.1---.7----108---258--202-----.71---.59---786--1870--2933
timing was at 11 btdc and pcv was unplugged. now im gonna put the pcv hose on and set timing at 18btdc but im not sure if that will fix my NO, what do you guys think

if i need to dump it as low as possible then why do i need an gauge? reason i ask is because i have a fpr layin around but with no gauge. that would make it run lean. NO comes from running lean doesnt it?

normally i could do it for cheaper than 200 but i gotta go to this TEST ONLY station now. and i think im lucky that they dont mind the dual cam vtec.

def a timing issue , high levels of nox are a clear indication of running lean. your high HC are probably due to a wron cat or o2.
man i hate smog... i got tagged when i got my CRX as a gross polluter, so always pay the pretest!

my hatch is a gross poluter too. now i solved some problems.
fixed the timing.
also my idle used to be kinda high (bout 1200) the idle screw was almost all the way out. i turned it about 3-4 turns and now the idle is at a even 750. question is do you think the vacuum leak created by the idle screw made the car run lean enough to make the NOx get that high? i dont wanna drop 150 for a new cat

no, a small leak like that would not cause high nox. you have a map sensor on your engine. the map sensor would sense the atmospheric pressure coming from the small leak and raise idle a little by putting more fuel into the engine. but anyway, that would not cause you to fail nox that bad. i would would say 02 and cat is a good bet.
Look man :
Lean is VERY BAD but your not going to drive the car like that your going to take that **** behind the shop and dump the pressure..
I watched a mechanic put the car on the smog check and dump the fuel pressure to pass a ls integra ..
you guys ask for a cheap way to do this if you like the way the car runs and you want it to pass smog lower the ****** fuel pressure to like 22lbs or so... it WILL WORK

anyone had similar numbers and fixed em. now i have two choices
funny smog for 300
or get a new cat welded in and take a chance to smog it again. itll end up being around 200.
what do you guys think should i go for the new cat and take a chance or drop a whole 2 weeks paycheck on smog?

hmm thats what the smog guy said too
what im lookin for is someone who had near these same numbers and fixed it.

I added racing methanol to my gass to pass here in STL, it took me from gross polluter to fast pass. I dont know how diffrent the emissions are in Ca, but its worth a shot if you can get your hands on it. I have also heard rubbing alcohol will work too.

You can't do that. Your suppost to have stock timing and you won't pass with an adjustable fpr in CA. You need the PCV also because its Illegal for you to have a item like that on a car pulled completely. They also look for thingsl ike that if they are doing there job.
I got a brand new cat that I don't need anymore, PM me.

im gonna have to call bs on ya buddy you can have a fpr in ca i have passed 3 cars with em so... just use the cheapo b&m one...its the cheapest easiest way to do it...

Actually it's illegal to have a fpr on your car in california. I'm assuming the smog shops you went to just passed it anyways. Oh yea I heard the B&M is the closest to stock looking so that *may* pass the visual inspection.
