Sorry for this. I know this is way off topic. But has anyone try the K40 RD850? K40 RD850 vs. V1?

Not worth it IMO. They say that they will pay for your ticket... so, what? Your insurance will be going through the roof.

With instant on lasers, hidden road-side cameras, etc these days, no radar/laser detector is 100% effective.

I wouldn't waste money on it. Just use V1. It does the job at a lot lower price.

IMO, a good radar detector (V1, 8500), common sense and a good pair of eyes work the best. (short of a laser jammer, diffuser, etc). So just get the radar detector that's been proven (V1, 8500)

<-- Haven't gotten a ticket yet (knock on wood)

Ya I have the V1. I'm just looking for some other radar detector for my mom. Because I'll be going to Daytona Beach for school and I'm taking the V1 with me.
O and the K40 RD850 is $299.95.

Thanks guys

Why don't you give the V1 to your mom since you won't be driving much at school?

When I had my V1 it had already beaten the then current K40.

Imho Radar detectors are over rated. The best defense is to drive within the speed limits or less than 10 mph over, know the roads you drive on and use your eyes and common sense.

Personally I think more people should get caught. Too many speed dangerously.

But I've been there, did that with the detectors. I was extremely pleased with my V1 and found when I compared it to other detectors at the time the V1 ruled.

I pick up the K40 RD850 yesterday. And I have both V1 and the RD850 in the car today. The V1 was going off way before the RD850 by like 30 second to 1 min. I though it was a fails alarm but it was not the cop was about 1/4 mile in front of me. (K40 RD850) What a piece of ****!!! I'm going to take it back and give the Escort 8500 X50 a try.

WTF Brad I have to see Marc, Dave and other guys at Orlando.

O and yes I do keep eyes out and common sense and keep a eye out on the V1 too.

If you're getting one for your mom, just get a used 8500 off of ebay--much cheaper and still a very good detector.

...unless this will be for Mother's Day, in which case, get her a new V1
