17's tend to look better w/ less wheel gap, but 16's are quite a bit lighter for the racing aspect. I've got 16's on my civic coupe, lotta wheel gap, but lowering it this weekend 2.25/2.0, should look good then.
well, i have 16" rims too.. but, i'm getting 17" rims that even lighter than 16" that i have.. so if you like 17" rims , then, you should buy light-weight rims~...

what's wrong with 15s? Also, why do 16s 17s handle better than 15s? is it because of the width? then why isnt it good, lets say, to put 205/50 tires on a 15x6.5 rim as opposed to 195/55 tires? someone help me out thanks
here is a civic with 17" Tantrums, lowered about 1.25"
(not my car, but im getting these same rims soon)

Overall Ratings:
First Choice: Plus Three (17")
The ideal blend performance and appearance. The tire sidewall and wheel alloy mass provide the right amount of wheel well clearance and visual appeal. For performance, braking is superior to all the combos tested and this fitment ranked second in the quarter-mile time and miles per hour, skid pad and slalom course. This size also offered an acceptable on-ramp acceleration and only scored second poorly in cost (about $1,500 for the set of four tires and wheels)
Second Choice: Plus Four (18" )
Third Choice: Plus two(16")
A set of 16-inch tires and wheels are a good conservative choice. Offered in many contemporary styles, a set of wheels that you like won't be hard to find. The downside is the high possibility of buyer remorse. That's right-you buy the 16s and end up three months later wanting to move up to the 17s
Fourth Choice: O.E.
Believe it or not, if you're going to waste the money on a set of 15-inch tires and wheels, you might as well keep the factory tread and steel wheels. Save your money untill the factory tires run down to the wear bars, then step up to a Plus Three setup.

I have fundamental issues with their choices in tire/rim sizing. They sound like closet poseurs to me. 17" and 18" rims on a Civic are the BEST performance choice? HAH!!!!
Hmm......they show the heavier 17" and 18" having darn near equal acceleration as the 14" and 15". IMHO that is a load of poo poo. Also notice, the biggest difference in going up a size is from 14"->15". Going over 15" the benefits plateau severely.
I have 17's on my car adn I love them...again, like they said, hey are by far hevier than a 16 or a 15 would be, but you have to weigh how much fashion vs. function you are going for. The only trouble is, the inner tire on the front rubs a bit at right steering lock. The car is lowered, but it rubbed before too.

I had 17x7.5's on my del Sol, OZ Competitions w 204/40/17 tires. Heavy, bent to DoEs AnYoNe KnOw WheRe I CaN GeT SoMe StRObE LiTEZ AnD LiGhT uP WiNdShiElD NoZzLeS?? and curb scrapped beyond recognition in 2 years. But they looked awesome.
Got some 16x7's on now w 205/45/16's. Rota Subzero's (no flames please - I am too poor to buy RH). WAAAAY lighter, no discernable handling losses. The look, well they are more "tucked" under the car than the wider rims. But I like them now (had them for ~3 weeks). I had to get new rims since the 40 series tires offered essentially zero protection for the rims, and I bent two of them badly - one so much that it wouldn't hold more than 30 psi!!
15's......I'd say yes for the performance (acceleration), but the larger sidewall means more tire roll. The look is ok with some rims styles. But at the end of the day, to each his own.
Personally, anyone with 18's or bigger on a Civic needs to have their head checked......
