Default 150ft/lb. of Torque From the B18C5 - STOCK?

Okay, here's the deal. I'm checking out a thread over in the hybrid forum and some guys is asking about swaps and which are the fastest. I tell him that straight line the H22A is his besy bet, but ultimately the B18C5 would be the better buy.

ANYWAYS some guy named DragonCTR comes along and says that the B18C5/B18C(JDM R) are rated from the FACTORY at 150lb/ft. of torque and that it's easy to "mod" it to get up to 150lb/ft. to the WHEELS.

WTF?

He is dead serious. Is the motor not rated at 128lb/ft.?

Is it not nearly impossible to reach the lofty 150lb/ft. of torque from a B18C5 block even if it's bored and stroked, much less just lightly "modded?"

Here's the link:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=121245

PLEASE check it out and correct me if I'm wrong or throw some input his way too.

ITR has 128 in US, and 130 in japan.

I dont even agree with your h22 comment.

its not impossible to reach 150 with a b18c without increasing displacement.
But its not easy either.

coreection: 98spec is 137lbft

Keep reading the whole topic and you'll see that I came back and said that I would never own an H22A swap, but it does have potential to run good even in stock form in a hatch if running properly.

Obviously I like the B18C5 much better than the H22A, or else I would have the name H22A-EH2 rather than B18C5-EH2. I love my R motor and would never trade it for the H22A, but in that specific case the guy asked about straight line speed only and didn't come across as someone who had the knowledge to get serious power from a B-series motor. H22A seemed like a good fit for the guy if he only wanted to go straight.

How is the torque measured in Japan? Not lb/ft, but what? And what's the conversion for it? Perhaps his conversions are totally off.

And 280whp all-motor with a B18 block? Possible?

96specR is 130
98spec is 137

21kgm is only 151lbft

Most shops in japan use a bosch dyno which reads CRANK power not wheel.

Being that most of the setups i see from japan are HELLA weak, 280 is probably crank rating.

imho, 150 at the wheels out of an NA 1.8L is VERY optimistic...

Sure on race gas at 16:1 compression and some vtec killers or something at 10-12k rpms... lol I exaggerate here a little. With a setup slightly more agressive that steve's it's possible I gather.

But most of us won't see those numbers without *some* increase in displacement. I think steve must be above 150wtq now, but his last update on his website was 210whp/ 145wtq... Was that on pump gas steve?

Stock? No. Not even close. Maybe it's because they measure in ps and kg/mm and your guy got the conversions wrong...?

its not kg/mm(thats a spring rate) its kgm.
Multiply kgm by 7.23 to get lbft.

I believe that thread is locked

It's not locked - PLEASE somebody correct the guy. He thinks that just because he went to Japan that he knows all and whatnot.

You two are always getting into with each other.

I have seen him post before about pushing the limits of a B-series engine. Anything is possible with money. However I have never heard of a "stock" B18-R engine having 150lb-ft torque.

tell...

The guy is relentless about this stock JDM B18C(R) motor being rated at 150lb/ft. of torque. I am getting pissed because I am the only one who is telling him otherwise - he keeps telling me to verify my sources, but I just figured that it's a well-established fact that the JDM motors only have a few more lg/ft. of rated torque than our USDM motors.

Now I will have to do a search and find every last b-series engine chart and link it. I would appreciate a little help on the issue if you guys don't mind spending the extra 2-3 minutes that it would take to just throw in "yes it's rated at 137, not 150" or whatever.

i've gotten 130 tq to the wheels on stock cams *ctr intake*
stock compression *jdm*, aem, mugen ecu, full exhaust 2.5".
what does that equate to the crank/flywheel?

I got 125 at the wheels which is around 150 at the crank, I'm told.

quite frankly, im not going to waste my time with that guy.
let him think what he wants. 210/150 is mediocre. If he wants
to think its all powerful then let him. sscrew him and keep the
blood pressure down.
