Default Strut Bars: Helpfull or Not

Simple question, myself and anther member are disagreeing on whether or not a set of strut bars will help my car.

PLEASE VOTE and then leave your opinion! it will help me out a lot!

Here's the set in question. There a simple no name set going for around $50 something shipped. let me know what you guys think. I already upgraded to Tokeco Shocks/Struts/Springs with a 2" drop over the stock suspension.

So you and Ricey are having a debate over strut bars?

Anyway, Strut bars do almost nothing alone, if you collect all you can then theyll help you.

But 2 sway bars will do more work then 8 strut bars. Ultimately you want strutbars, rollcage and sway bars.

On my hatch, when I had the front one and no rear, with no swaybar's, I had a significant amount of oversteer for some reason and when I had both on for a short time, I stuck to the ground like no other.

I definately noticed a difference when I had them both on and both off!

from me!

I didn't think of that, Ill have to check into that. Thanks for the idea

But yea we are, I'm not saying there gonna give you a huge difference but they will help. I looked up a set of sway bars and will have to do some more research before I buy them.

I noticed a little bit of a tighter steering response. I guess it's doing it's job

Well, I guess it depends on the amount of suspension mods but, I have to say YES they help if you have at least moderate modifications done.

I temporarlily removed my front upper strut bar on my GS-R swapped del Sol when I put my ITB's on, I and I noticed a HUGE difference The sol had GC coilovers, KYB shocks, ureathane bushings, ITR front and rear sway bars, ITR front brakes, and Azenis sports on it, and when the front bar was missing, the car was actually scary to drive. It would wander all over the place when the I hit the brakes. I actually thought something was broken on my car!!!

Put the bar back on, good as new...

Yes got my vote!

Strut bars work. Those one's won't.

Solid bars are the ONLY way to go. You get what you pay for, but having said that try out the Neuspeed front bar. HUGE difference.

you get what you pay for. I had a rear strut bar on my sentra and it helped out slightly. Then again i was lowered and had sway bars.

Personally i think ONLY those non-adjustable strut bar works, say Mugen, Carbing, Rigid. or ITR/CTR one..

i think they are under-rated. over in uk most people seem to think they are only good for making your engine bay look better. i think they great! i have a euro sentra (almera) and i put on front and rear strut bars from the almera gti (sentra se-r equivilant) and it made a noticable improvement, instead of un-predicatable slides round bends, its now controlable and cornering is alot leveler with less body roll.

Had a rear sway bar on my Mini and it definitely helped to dial out most of the factory understeer. A front and rear set would have to be tweaked a bit to get the settings right, but the end result (could) be a very neutral handling car. As long as you expect it, it's a good thing.

if you had a stock suspension i'd say it wouldn't help at all, but bars in conjunction w/ an upgraded suspension is always a good idea.

the strut bars pictured there can't do much at all... they have swivel points. isn't a strut bar supposed to tighten your chassis? if you're going to get one, get one worth while and that has some function instead of just fashion... Benen.

EDIT: i have Skunk2 strut bars on my 99 hatch (3 pieces, 2 mounts w/ swivel points to put the bar in)... doesn't feel as stiff as the difference i felt when i put the neuspeed 4 point strut bar on my del Sol. one solid piece, no swivel points.

From what I understand Sway bars and Strut bars are for two totally different uses. Sway bars are suppose to help your car handle better while Strut bars only help straighten the body of the car while turning that is if you have 16"+ wheels and stiff *** suspension in effect also helps on handling. So if you have both Sways ans Strut bars in your car it would be a very nice handling car.

I totally agree with the fact that size does matter! Although you want your chassis to be stiff, if you don't have the right suspension set up(springs/shocks) , you'll run into problems because your suspension is supposed to work, when I say that I mean it needs to both compress and rebound a good distance for the geometry of the suspension to react positively. If a person would put bars on cheap coil-overs, the car will feel like it's on rails due to the odd angles of the suspension while having no body roll. Tires don't like this because they tend to side in these situations, due to the lack of weight transfer and "travel". If you have a nice "daily driveable" set up with bars it's key! You have good geometry while the bars keep the body from rolling so much in corners giving the driver the effect of stiff coil-overs in the corners while retaining the use of car on "those" types of roads.

"strut" bars on a double wishbone don't do nearly as much as some people think they do. Blame it on the placebo effect. On a car with struts, where the strut actually locates the suspension, you will feel a difference for sure. I would venture to guess that the best front strut bar for our cars is the neuspeed one, since it actually ties a locating part of the suspension together(UCA's).

I'll leave my opinion, however, I didn't vote. Reason being, there was no option for THOSE strut bars.

I have one of those bars right now. After I put it on, I could tell it didn't do much (if anything). I just bougth an Si strut bar (solid bar). Now those do something. Solid bars will actually do something. If a bar with pivot points is installed, what do you think those points are going to do when the car turns? Pivot.

If you want something that will REALLY help you, buy a large rear SWAY bar. I put one of the measlie (sp) Si rear sways on my 96 coupe, and OMG what a difference.

In conclusion

ebay sturt bars (like the ones pictured)<solid sturt bars<swaybars
