Default Skunk2 Pro B-Series Series 1+ Camshafts

What is needed to run these cams in a stock gsr motor? do i need to upgrade valvetrain? or would stock valvetrain be fine for a street motor? should i upgrade to CTR pistons? how much more power can cam gears make? also im assuming i should get a skunk2 IM manifold as well. i already have the usual Intake/Exhaust/Header....

any help is appreciated. thanks

I wouldn't go so crazy as to install the CTR pistons, but you definately won't feel the full benefit of those cams at the stock GSR compression. Consider JDM ITR pistons.

Dont run them unless you have valvetrain.
Dont run them on stock gsr cr and expect to see huge gains
Dont run them unless you have the capability to tune.. IE hondata/crome/uberdata or better.
These are called PRO-1's for a reason..
The stage 2 style of skunk cams will idle better with the setup you explained..

You could do a set of jdm itr pistons and a 2 layer head gasket which will give you the proper cr to take advantage of these larger cams.

I recomend what I run usually just because of the simple fact that its proven..
Rocket Motorsports valvetrain
(Or Omni's and skunks NEW stuff)
Crome tunning software because its free and a small fee for the full version that adds the datalogging tools..as well having a usefull and helpfull forum specificly.
Neptune is also cool if you dont need to tune yourself, it's cheaper then most engine management systems and has a large resolution tunning grid..

Hey TBone...

I am in the process of a full build on my GS-R... Got the Pro 1's, and the OmniPower valve/spring/retainer package, with some SRP 11:1 slugs (works out to ~11:5 with Omni valves...), rods, etc.

Do I need to upgrade the LMA's? I know there are cheaper alternatives to the ITR LMA's that Omni posted (Prelude LMA and a washer (https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=566420)), and was wondering if it was a must do... A bunch of folks that "should" know, didn't even know that the ITR ran different LMA's, much less if they need to be upgraded with big cams...

Yay/Nay??? (my guess is YAY (and for ~$65, I'd be a fool not to...), but I would like to hear you opinion)

Adrian

that's pretty good. what's your c/r at and how much tq did you put down? that sounds a little high on power for stg1's. gives me hope for my gsr with stg2's at 11.9:1 c/r

Were talking PRO-1 cams not stage 1.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but the degree and duration specs I have seen about the Skunk2 Pro Series 1+ cams have been slightly better than thier regular stage 1's.

What also gets me is that if this is Skunk2's wildest cam, why is it the same price as Stage 2's and cheaper than Stage 3's?

I am just trying to clarify some info.

Do any of you actually own a set?????

i do. they are in my motor, and im busy trying to tune them in between my real job, and my side job...

the cams are pretty dam close to the spraybars on the head.
other than that no real troubles really. but i will have it on a dyno soon....

BTW the stage3's have BUNCHES more duration. i compared them to a set of stage3's before we threw them in, and they are close tot he same lift...

Advertised duration is for the most part meaningless. The duration @ 0.050 on the Pro 1's is about the same as S2S2.

Something to think about? Less advertised duration but near identical duration @ 0.050. Would this suggest a more aggressive ramp?

Also like Tbone said you better have someone who actually knows how to tune instead of a "tweaker". The primary lobe ain't no ***** stock like lobe.

Thanks.

The primary lobe is HUGE. It's Almost as big as the VTEC lobe.

Our X primary has more duration and lift.

That's why a chip is provided to make it easier for people to enjoy the cams. Most of the time our customers don't have to go to the tuner.
