jdm itr hid
I just got the jdm hid lights a week ago. Now the lights seemed dull to me and even one of them turned a rice blue. Well now it has turned purple and is dim and I know its not the power or ground becuase i hooked it to the batt. My question is , is this how they die and is it that quick for a used one? what are the odds that two start to go bad? i changed the fuse and even went as far as putting in a relay and still nothing. Any thoughts?
I've never heard of HID's doing anything like this, but if I had to guess, I'd say that one of your ballasts is going bad. Try swapping your bulbs and see if the problem follows the bulb or stays with the ballast. Either way, go here for parts:

The bulbs might be old... switch the bulbs side to side to ensure it is the bulbs and not the equipment. Dull side should move with the bulb.
Bulbs do colour shift as they get old, going yellow when new to white (after about 100hours) to blue to purple. HIDplanet.com has Phillips 4300k bulbs for $75 a pair. They buy in bulk so that's why they're so cheap. I don't think you'll find a cheaper price. Change both bulbs so you have the same colour lights and keep the old ones for spares.

just solved my problem. The lights I got had d2r bulbs which should work but they did not have the notches that mated with the lights. So the ballast plug was not on the bulb flush. It lookes like it arc'd a few times and melted the bulb.
