Default Clutch, tranny, which is it? Help need to know ASAP its my daily driver :(

So I am not sure if its the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel or tranny.
I have not had problems with it in the past until yesterday.

Yesterday when I was driving (not racing) and went to shift into 2nd it would not go in. The next time it wouldn't go into 3rd. So I had to shift to 4th.

This is what I have done so far:

Checked for leaks: none
Checked fluid level: good and clear (no metal shavings)
Checked linkage: Has play in it but should work
Checked clutch cable: not sure if I adjusted it correctly cause its acting weirder

I figured it might not be engaging and disengaging properly so I tightened the clutch cable but it didn't do anything besides make it disengage quicker.

After doing all this I took it for a test drive got 3 blocks with it shifting okay then it stopped working. I couldn't shift into any gears.

This is my daily driver I need it on the road for work. Help.

Could it be the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, or transaxle?

Sorry it does engage. If I am driving and press on the clutch it will just rev up and keep coasting. If I put it in neutral while park and put it in 1st it will just seat there but if I let go it will go forward.

what tranny? what clutch (aftermarket)?

so if the car is off it will go into gear all the gears?
it will work normal until it warms up and then won't go into gear?

it goes into the gears but not necessarily clean. Its a 90 CRX SI tranny (stock), with as far as I know a stock clutch. This is a stock car.

^^^i think he is saying his clutch won't disengage.

how about it when then engine is cold. is it fine until the engine starts to warm up or will it not go into gear from the get go?

does it go into every gear fine with the engine off?

if so....then you need a new clutch and pressure plate

hmm. Well I thought it engages and disengages.

If I drive the car and push on the clutch and hit the gas it will rev up without picking up speed. now if I let go of the clutch (engage) it will pick up speed. Thats if I can get it into gear.

If I have it cold it will go into gears.

If it warms up or I hit over 3k it is damn near impossible to get it into 2nd/3rd gear.

it could be your 2nd and 3rd gear sencros in your tranny. does it grind when you try to put in in gear or does it just not try at all.

I don't think its the syncrhos.

Its pretty much this. When its cold and if I drive it for 2-3 blocks it will work but after that it won't work correctly.

After that not even 1st will work.

Tighten up the clutch cable (it will raise the engagement point on your pedal).

If the clutch is only going, this should help. If it's gone, it won't help.

Worth a shot

yeah did that but didn't seem to help. If anything made it worse. Now it engages sharp like soon as a I let go it grabs and jerks a little. And the car is kinda having wheel hop or something. Wow this is weird. Can this make the car vibrate more?

if your clutch engages and disengages fine, and it doesn't seem to be dragging when its pushed into the floor, its your tranny. this would be completely evident if it doesn't shift near perfect while parked on a perfectly flat area with the engine off.

Is it likely, though, that it just decides to go out? Like it was driving fine Saturday morning then that afternoon is when it happened. didn't do anything out of the ordinary.

If I go an drive it right now it will shift hard but it will shift into gear with out grinding like it pops into gear. but after it warms up it will not even go into gear.

Thanks.

^^thats how mine is too. (b16 Y1) it will work for about a half hour and after that i really have to force the shifter in. the hose clamp at the end helps but i still don't think its right.
let me know if you figure something out.

I am thinking it is the clutch. I am hearing noises (not all the time) and it sounds like rotational noises. The clutch (i forgot to mention) has came out of gear before (in the past) when I would be driving and it would jsut pop out of gear (2nd only).

Any one elses inputs? I can shift it in gear with car shut off when I turn it on it is very difficult or won't.

ALSO, the car is vibrating like crazy on the passenger side front end. It only happens between 5mph-15mph. Its crazy it feels like I am going over a construction site.

it's your clutch plate...something is stuck between your diaphram and disc. 90% of the time, it's the stock tension springs that fall outta the disc.

haha okay thanks Paul. I guess knock the engine swap out of the way. I will be doing the tranny swap. Mini-me can wait till its warmer out

Thanks you guys for your advice. Funny thing is my tranny worked for like 20 minutes today . Shifted like normal only messed up once.

Oh yeah my buddy from work was saying it could be the throw out bearing.

I am guessing its the clutch.

You say it engages right away, as soon as you lift the pedal??

You adjusted it the wrong way!

You were supposed to raise the engagement point

until then I'm driving a 94 ford f-150 xl. lol a little bit change of scenery
