Default Odd knocking noise

When ever I drive, there is no noise present, but if I hold rpms or as i decrease in rpms an odd tapping noise comes from my engine, it sounds like a tapping on the valve cover or something, i cant really locate the source of the noise. Can someone help me out so I can fix this problem or at least know what the hell is going on?

hrm.. bump for you. the noise you describe sounds like knocking, but there's no reason for it while decelerating.. can it make the noise while sitting still in neutral?

my buddies car made a thwacking noise (not as loud as a knock but louder than valves tapping). we couldnt figure it out until the flashlight fell and pointed at the belts. when he revved it and let off, the belt would slack up and smack the pulley above it and make the thwacking sound.

check belts maybe.

Yeah it does, what is knocking exactly? I hope it's not serious.... <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by civictildeath &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">my buddies car made a thwacking noise (not as loud as a knock but louder than valves tapping). we couldnt figure it out until the flashlight fell and pointed at the belts. when he revved it and let off, the belt would slack up and smack the pulley above it and make the thwacking sound.

It could just be a valve adjustment that you can do yourself, or have a shop do it for no more than like 90 bucks because it is a simple proceedure. Don't let someone charge you more than that....Also make sure you change your oil often and keep it at good levels. (that's what it sounds like to me...I may be wrong...)

if it is a rod knocking... that really sucks.. my rod started knocking and then my engine died. Good luck.

Hmm, im checking my oil right after this killer final, i hope its just a valve adjustment I need. This happened after we changed my head gasket from the previous one blowing, could this somehow be related to my prolem? Thank yall a lot for the suggestions, i really do appreciate them

You know what....Now that I think about it....After my head gasket was changed, about 4 months later was when I needed my valve adjustment because the ticking was just driving me crazy. It was the valves and the ******* that did my headgasket forgot to put on these little washer/gaskets for the two top-bolts that hold the valve on. So OIL started coming out of the engine and I always had to add oil. The guy who did my valve adjustment pointed it out to me....I think you need a valve adjustment and make sure that all washers/bolt gaskets go back in correctly....

the ends of the rockers have a screw type deal on the end of them. the loud tapping is the space starting between the rocker and the vavle. when you adjust the valves, you tighten the adjusting piece to get rid of the "space" between the rocker/valve. you use a feeler gauge to tighten it to spec. (.09 intake/.07 exhaust....i do mine .07 intake/.05 exhaust)
