Ahh!!! Digikey is out of Atmel 29C256's!!!
I know these had been discontinued a little while ago, and there are alternatives available, but I didn't think the Atmel's would run out so fast.
What are some of the altenatives and where are they available?
This pisses me off, because Digikey was such a reliable source of such a reliable chip. Damn

Ok, so if these chips you're looking for are actually the re-writeable ones, why do you need more than one or two? Do they go bad after a while? Because I've erased and reburned onto my chip about 20 times now.

Because when you chip a lot of ecu's, you go through a lot of chips!!
A lot of ppl like to have 2 or 3 just for experimenting. But I think I have ordered somewhere in the neighborhood of 75 in the last year or so.

I don't think I would get through a 1000 Eproms until there weren't any running OBD1 cars left on the road!!

Apparently you can use the 512's. Not only that but you can use 2 burns on 1 chip and have a switch. That's what i was hearing a while back.
BTW: These chips aren't going away. There's TONS. Just have to know where to look.

I use the SST 512's. They are faster than the AT29C's also.
You can either stack the bins to make them 512, or just change the address that you write to. I just use the correct address and it works great, they are cheaper and more available.

Sounds like you guys have it sorted out pretty well. I usually order from http://www.futurlec.com/Memory/AT29C256pr.shtml - they're $4.50, but there's no minimum.

they might work with other burners like the Willems. Someone might buy them off you then if you can't cancel your order.
