Default How to choose the right drag radial?

I am looking at getting a set of radials. I have already tried a set of BFG ones and could only muster a 2.1 60ft, I blame this to stock suspension. However I have been thinking outside the box and thought about using a set of Mickey Thompson ET-streets, they are more expensive but the domestic crowd seems to be doing good with them? Does anyone have any experience with these tires, I have already ruled out the Nitto drag radials. I know my 60fts will come down once my suspension is in with the traction bars I am waiting on. Mind you this is a relatively stock GSR, with just intake and exhaust. If someone can think of another radial that might help I am all ears, I just am kinda trying to find the right setup.

The smallest MT's are a 26x9.5, which is too big for a stock GSR with I/E.

what pressure did u run the bfg at? how much tread is on them? and how did u do the burn out?

from some one that pulled a 1.71 60' on the bfg. 12psi is the best to run
and the tread need to be almost gone on the tire...
second gear burn outs are best , it allows higher rpm due to higher gearing in 2nd.

heres a little trick..

roll the tires thru the water box spin thru alittle pull out of the box about 1 foot.
set ebrake and bring the rpm's to about 4-5k dump the clutch and bring the rpm's up to about 6-6.5k while turning the tires left and right.

when you see smoke starting to come up from the tires and you feel the car wanting to pull forward let down on the ebrake and rip it forward....

you should be set from there ...pull to the line and donw let the tires cool down. youll need to find the right rpm to leave the line from due to the sticky tires..
hopefully u have a good clutch...

let me know how it goes..

No, MT has some good sized ET Drag slicks in Import sizes.

ET Drag - Non-DOT drag slick
ET Street - Drag slick with grooves, DOT approved
ET Street Radial - Radial drag tire, DOT approved

The ET Streets and ET Street Radials do not come in anything smaller than a 26x9.5.

I like the Hoosier DR's. They are much better than the BFG DR's, even better than my old Hoosier 24.5x8x13's. I've only launched on them five times, but I was getting 1.8's in a 2750 lb. Civic.

the smallest m/t radial is 235/60-15 witch is equal to a 26.1x9.0 tire you can stuff that up under your car but be ready to jack that front end up or modifying your fenders

Make sure whatever you get that you can run them in the streetwars events. I don't think you can run the hoosiers anymore. Just something to think about.

Thanks for the info James, I was running a set of radials which were at about 45% tread left, and I was doing burnouts till I could see the smoke coming out then I would let the brake go and roll up, I had no problem launching from 5K. I was thinking that the Hoosier or MT radials would be better and provide more traction, I was running 18Psi however, I heard it is a safety hazard to go below 15psi and that is BFG's lowest tire pressure recommended. Chad I won't buy slicks because the will never make enough power to need them. Thanks for the info guys, I am gonna see what I can conjure up to finish off the season on.

You don't want to order slicks because "you'll never make enough power to need them", but you will run a 26" tall drag radial that is bigger than any slick and horribly overkill?

if you don't have that much power, then the 20x8x14's that i ran last year would be perfect for you. look into those, unless you're looking specifically for a radial.

See most of the events held at Englishtown you are required to use DOT legal radials, there aren't too many events you get to use slicks, that is why I am in the market for a radial.

most of their events are for DOT legal tires, which most radials fit under, there are only a handful of events where you can run slicks.

Hoosier apparently has some radials (24.5/8.7/16) that would work for you, but other than that there isn't a lot of DOT's that are under 26" tall.

You can not run those anymore at e-town for the streetwars. They are not considered DOT approved for some reason.

Talk to John at M and H tires. They have great customer service and they will take the time to make sure you have the right tires. Mention The Speed Scene racing internet radio show and they will knock 5 per cent off the price. They are at http://www.mandhtires.com.

Since when are those radials banned, they are grooved and DOT for street use, I have seen 3 guys that go to my gym who race Mustangs and they use them. I thought drag radials were drag radials and there wasn't much to seperate.
