squeaking spring
i need some help with a squeaking suspension on my right front wheel. with basically every weight shift the spring squeaks on my 95 lx and its driving me mad. I did a search and found that i should spray the spring with a litium grease or wrap the spring. my question is where exactly should i spray the spring? i tried everywhere and the sound doesnt go away. It might have been though that i was using wd-40 and should be using something else. Also how difficult is it to wrap a spring and what has to be done? the squeak is very annoying. thanks in advance
are you using stock shocks? One thought could be that it is squeaking at the perch (where the spring meets the shock) Maybe get some weather stripping and lay some down, so the spring sits gently.
yeah its the stock suspension. this weather stripping your talking about can i just get it from pepboys? and where do i put it? between the bottom of the spring and the part of the shock thats holding the spring in? sorry i havent worked with suspension much
o ok. so something like this would be good? http://www.homedepot.com/prel8...=9876 and just put it inbetween where the spring meets the shock? would i need any special tools to get the spring to compress enough to get this inbetween or will lifting the car be good enough?
IF this happens only in cold weather, you've got dry ball joint(s). Honda has a bulletin regarding this. Seems the monkey grease they use drys up after several years, hardens and will no longer lubricate.
They call for "massaging" the joints to limber them up again. At 100,000.00 miles or so, just replace them and save yourself a headache later.

The 5th generation chassis isn't known for suspension problems like the late 80's models, but that doesn't mean you may not up against the occasional dry bushing or ball joint.
Getting a handle on it isn't all that difficult if you've a trusting friend, a few tricks and a fist full of tools.
One of the most common complaints is sway bar bushing squeeks. These can be checked by disconnecting the bar links at the lower control arms and bouncing the suspension. Noise no longer there; it's the bar bushings. Noise still there; we have to consider control arm bushings, strut bushings and ball joints.
Bushings will sometimes give visual clues that there are problems. Check to make sure that the component that the bushing mounts is centered between it's mounting lugs/ears or brackets. There should be no movement side to side between the bushing, it's mount or it's component. If you find any, **** can them.
Ball joints can be checked several ways. I would suggest using the trusted friend with a stethiscope or educated fingers. A frozen (dry) ball joint can sometimes be ferreted out by touching the bjoint while the suspension is bounced, the vibration from the joint binding will be pretty obvious.

thanks for the info, looks like i got some work to do this weekend, meanwhile for the rest of the week is it ok to drive on? its a daily driver to comute to and from school and work
Drive away (Mcduff)
It's all pretty much an annoyance right now. If anything were anticipating going to the "south 40" you'd be dealing with suspension rattles, knocking noises over bumps and snapping noises.
