HELP! need advice on alignment settings for oval track teg
Just finishing up 00 Integra for oval track racing on a asphalt 4/10 mile track.Does anyone have any experience with an alignment set up for this car or any idea where to start. We must run factory shocks and springs in this class.I sent several springs to the shock dyno so i have a pretty good selection of spring rates.Soft springs in the front with factory GSR sway bar, stiffer srings in the rear with Type R sway bar is what i am thinking about trying.Camber settings? Toe front and rear? I do not know where to start.Any help would be greatly appreciated! Tuesday night is our practice session.
Can I assume some banking? Front right lots of neg camber, left front positive. Figure going similar in back, maybe not as much though. I'd go somewhere near 0" toe on both ends. Maybe a little toe out in front and a little in on the back. You probably want a stiffer spring in the front right to keep from completely unloading the left rear. Tire temps are going to be more important than lap times in testing. You want a setup that will not destroy the front right and the fastest setup will probably eat that tire. If you only need to run 10-20 laps, go for fastest setup and damn the tire wear.
It's largely based on what typical oval track alignments. What sort of tires are you running and how many laps is the race? Most oval track people I know who run front drive cars are running on dirt, so the specs are a bit different from what they would run. The main thing is to watch that front right.
I'd start at 3.5 - 4.0 degrees neg camber RF and maybe a degree of positive camber LF. 2.5 neg deg RR and near 0 LR (the LR will spend most of its time in the air). Toe the left front out about 1/8 and maybe the RR out 1/16. You'll have to set it up real loose to keep from killing the RF tire. Run a slightly harder tire compound on the RR if you have that choice.
Run a few laps and see what you got. Look at the tire temps. Take care of that RF, it's gonna roast real quick if you don't.
