Default DIY 2-tone bronze/black Fat 5's (LARGER WRITE UP)

this is my car

those are the wheels, they were previously just rattle can flat black. i got really sick of them being just boring black and ive always wanted bronze rims but rota's were too expensive. so i figured i would just paint these.

first i bought the paint which was 2 cans of each : Rust-oleum Metallic bronze/gold(i forgot what the color was REALLY called) then just some flat black super enamel. so totall cost was like 12 bucks or something

i removed the wheels from the car. i took off the left side then the right. not all at the same time. you could do front first then rear or visa versa.

then i taped off the outer part where the tire meets the rim. you can use whatever method works for you (depending on rim), i used some really sticky/thick tape and taped off the outer lip of the rim like where the spokes meet the edge, that tiny little lip that extends out. then i layed old tshirts over the actual tire to keep from over spray

i never bought any primer because i never thought i would need it, and i didnt. and since my wheels were already painted black i didnt need to spray them with the black paint first. but if it were on OEM condition (that metallic color) i would lay a nice coat of black first.IF PAINT STARTS TO RUN STOP SPRAYING AND WAIT TO DRY IMMEDIATLY. DO NOT KEEP SPRAYING. ONCE DRY LIGHTLY COAT IT AGAIN WITH WHATEVER COLOR YOUR USING. DO NOT LET RUN OR ELSE IT WILL SHOW i let the black dry, not completely, and i went over with a good coat of bronze. after the bronze DRIED ALL THE WAY i went over it with black VERY LIGHTLYOR HOWEVER MUCH IS DESIRED the more BLACK you spray over the BRONZE theLESS the bronze will show. so if you really want the bronze to show dont spray much black over the bronze but if you would like to hide the bronze like i did (where it looks black at a distance then bronze up close) then spray a decent amount

it really is up to however much is desired, so its up to you!!!

let dry for a while.

finished product :

really try not to let it run, but if it happens remember just let it dry and do another coat.

i like how they turned out, its pretty easy and mainly common sense stuff good luck with your wheels.

feel free to ask me any questions, PM me or my AIM=EG5jdmusdm

nice effort, however the paint looks uneven...not totally uniform. perhaps a coat of clear over the top might help mask that?

it looks uneven kinda because of the angle of spoke/camera. it was laying down when i coated it so it was pretty even all the way around.

thanks for the compliment guys, its appreciated.

i enjoy the harvard blue as well
