Default A must for TL hid retrofitters [2 mods inside]

This is for people thinking of using Acura TL bi-xenon projectors for their HID retro. Not sure if these will fit in a gen 3 but I'm sure with some extra work and thought, it would fit. Lens is 3" just like stock halogen projector lens size on a gen 3. These would fit in a RSX fairly well.

Only drawback to the stock TL bi-xenon projector is their narrow beam caused by a top shield making the foreground very short and distinct. Well, I like a good bit of foreground lighting so I had to do some trimming on the sheild to gain more foreground.

The reason why the foreground is so narrow is because TL's have a fog light that is positioned inward on the housing. This fog light is what fills the void the TL's in their stock form don't light up. So doing the sheild trim mod will give you the foreground the projector should of been intened to have.

I also did a color mod which creates a LARGE amount of color to come out in the colorband. The stock color is ok, its just a tad too purple for me and I like the blue hue a bit better, plus more color in the colorband is a good thing haha.

Anyways, here's a how-to for those guys interested....

First off is you remove the 4 gold colored philips screws from the rear flanks of the TL bi-xenon projector..

Here is the TL disassembled after removing the screws....

While I was in there working on the shield, I figured why not go ahead and perform a color mod too while I was at it. The color mod increases the colorband A WHOLE LOT!! The stock colorband on the TL is a slight purplish/blueish/orange colorband throughout but removing the little black rubber shield stop will get you TONS of thick beautiful blue! Alot more than stock! This rubber stop is what tells the lowbeam shield where to sit. Since your removing it, it causes the lowbeam shield to sit closer to the bulb thus giving you tons more color! Here is a pic of me removing the rubber stop from the highbeam fixed shield.

Here's some color after the color mod...

Anyways, back to the shield mod. I took others advice and snipped the top portion off. Here's where to do it....

It should look like this when your done....

Now onto how the shield mod looks.....
(Note, all pics where taken with the color mod already performed)

Stock shield w/ color mod

Now time for a good comparison....
stock (yes it is slanted accidentally)...

Modded...much better!!!

Thanks. These are oem bulbs (4100k). No ricer blue here. The colors you see there are the same colors found on any factory HID projectored car such as Audi, BMW, Acura, etc...

Nice, the cutoff is great, I like the better foreground lighting but its kind of splattered, is there any way to correct that?

In stock trim the foreground was more splattered IMO then with the top portion trimmed. If your refering to the cresent shaped section, that is formed by the area that is on the reflector bowl of the projectors. There is a cresent shaped slot up tp of the reflector that is causing that semi-circle shape. I like the trimmed sheild better. The payoff is far more than the pics do justice. With the projectors aimed appropriatly, I'd saw I probably gained over 5ft of foreground in the middle and about a 3ft span of light more off to the sides. All of which are evenly distributed except for the semi-circle of light. Take a look at the stock foreground before the trimmed shield. You'll notice it does a wierd wiggly shape. This is the same shape your seeing from the tiop of the top shield that I eventually trimmed off.
