i have a 89 si and i bought it wit a sohc v-tec. but the vtec doesnt kick on i was told to buy a computer.but i just dont know which computer to buy.the wireharness is the stock 89 harness.and i dont know if this matters but its ether a 93 or a 96 motor i was told those two different years from the kid i bought it from.

The block stamping is on the block to the left of the header and the right of the transmission. If you see the front mount look up from there; if the block is black in that area clean it until it you have nice shiny aluminum and then you should be able to read it fine.
yea i bought my 89 dx hatch it was already swapped with the d15b vtec and mine doesnt work, do to the fact i am sporting a 88 pm6 i am switching to a 90 or 91 pm6 and geetting chipped to get vtec running along with the other benifits of chipping
i looked and it said 93 in a circel.
so can i get my computer chipped and then will the vtec work. if so how much will it be around about number and what chip would i have to ask for and is it somthing i can do or no.

your not looking at the right spot....look at your dizzy...then go down the front till you see a square patch. if your motor is so a vtec then it should either say d16z6, or d16y8. or the guy ripped you off...why do people buy cars and dont know **** about them?

You said you saw 9/3, which means you saw it on the head next to the exaust ports, so by logical deduction you have a D16Z6 as that was the only 1.6L SOHC VTEC motor produced at the time. To run VTEC you will need a P28 computer and run OBD-1, or a chipped PM6 (not ebay chipped, tuned CUSTOM FOR YOU CAR INFRONT OF YOU) to run VTEC, i.e. TurboEdit.
i look at the pic some one put up i wen and looked at my motor at the same spot and it said ZC and nuthing after that but under the ZC it had 7407261. i didnt see D or anything
Then you have a SOHC ZC, that nifty 1.5L, or the NON-VTEC version which is the same as the A6. Can you take a picture of the motor as a whole and post it up here please?
on the valve cover it says v-tec and the spark plugs are in the frontof the cover
and i cant take a picture no camera. i was told it was taken out of a 2door 5 speed civic but i dont know what year. ill try to get a picture some how

your wrong....92-93 does not say vtec on valve cover. 94-95 did for the z6
for the y8 i think all of them say vtec on the valve cover

DOES IT HAVE A VTEC SOLENOID ON THE HEAD???
SEE HERE:
if it DOES then you need a P28 ecu and OBD1 conversion.
if it DOESNT then the current computer is fine bc he put a valve cover that says vtec on a ******* sohc zc.
the end.

ummm a vtec valve cover will not fit on a non vtec head.....because non vtec SOHC plugs come out the rear while SOHC vtec comes out the front...that solenoid he has in the picture is for a B motor....the one on the SOHC vtec motor the green plug you see in the pic exits out the side.
