The block stamping is on the block to the left of the header and the right of the transmission. If you see the front mount look up from there; if the block is black in that area clean it until it you have nice shiny aluminum and then you should be able to read it fine.

your not looking at the right spot....look at your dizzy...then go down the front till you see a square patch. if your motor is so a vtec then it should either say d16z6, or d16y8. or the guy ripped you off...why do people buy cars and dont know **** about them?

You said you saw 9/3, which means you saw it on the head next to the exaust ports, so by logical deduction you have a D16Z6 as that was the only 1.6L SOHC VTEC motor produced at the time. To run VTEC you will need a P28 computer and run OBD-1, or a chipped PM6 (not ebay chipped, tuned CUSTOM FOR YOU CAR INFRONT OF YOU) to run VTEC, i.e. TurboEdit.

Then you have a SOHC ZC, that nifty 1.5L, or the NON-VTEC version which is the same as the A6. Can you take a picture of the motor as a whole and post it up here please?

There are 2 SOHC ZCs, the 1.6L that always has ZC stamped on the block and the 1.5L with VTEC that sometimes has ZC or D15B stamped on the block.

the 2 ZC single cam motors are 1.6L, one vtec, one not. the D15B vtec is a whole different animal

DOES IT HAVE A VTEC SOLENOID ON THE HEAD???

SEE HERE:

if it DOES then you need a P28 ecu and OBD1 conversion.

if it DOESNT then the current computer is fine bc he put a valve cover that says vtec on a ******* sohc zc.

the end.

ummm a vtec valve cover will not fit on a non vtec head.....because non vtec SOHC plugs come out the rear while SOHC vtec comes out the front...that solenoid he has in the picture is for a B motor....the one on the SOHC vtec motor the green plug you see in the pic exits out the side.
