Default Wheel hop problems !!??

Hello Honda People .

Today I went to the drag strip in hope to make some better times . I went for the first run , made the burnout , staged on the line , revs 6k , green light and I let the clutch , I got huge wheel hop !! I let of the gas pedal because of the huge wheel hop and I heard click , click , click noise coming from right side wheel !!! Damit I broke a CV Joint

I am beat about this , I spent 30 mins searching on the forum about wheel hop and the 2 things that people say to do to eliminate it are good engine mounts and traction bars . Now I have Enjo mounts and Lakewood traction bars and still I have wheel hop !!

What else I need to upgrade to eliminate wheel hop ??

My good friend and also he`s my tuner he told me to try and run a different tire on the track ! His impresive integra does 11.6 at the quarter mile and he does not have any wheel hop and he is running on AVON Slicks . My tires are TOYO T1S 205/45r16 , are they what is cousing the wheel hop ????

I am going to buy some 15 inch rims and get some slicks in hope I end this problem once and for all .

Thanks
Marlon

**EDIT**
BTW who have or knows a good deal on set of 2 Rota slipstream in 15"x6" with PCD of 114.3mm in 5 studs PM or send me an E-mail

you did not set the traction bars up right if you still have wheel hop, try again.

If you're running street tyres, there's no need for a burnout. Most street tyres get greasy after a burnout, which will hurt your traction off the line and could be a part of your wheel hop problem.

Drive around the water box next time. A quick spin of the tyres to remove any rocks or other misc garbage in the tread is more than enough.

Hello Bbasso
I am going to fix my CV joint tomorow and I think I am going to an alignment shop to tune my traction bars , what to you think ?

Reid , in the word burnout I didn`t mean I did huge smoke or something like that , I pulled the handbrake and for like 5 seconds I let it spin in 1st gear.

That's too long, IMHO.

I'd rev up to 6-7k rpm and pop the clutch (with the e-brake down) and then quickly push the clutch back in. A second or two at most.

If your car needs an alignment then yeah go and let them do it. but if not just start with the min setting on the bars and try 'em out. increase little by little until you have reduced the wheel hop to your liking. After that I would go and get a wheel alignment, but tell them not to touch the bars.

As for the burnout, your's was too much. Just spin the tires and stop, line up, rev the motor, stage, then go.

I recommend pushing in the clutch after the burnout and letting the car slow down as it rolls forward, rather than allowing the car to get traction on its own.

This puts less stress on the drivetrain. The last thing you want to do is break an axle on the line or worse yet, before you even make it to line.

Ok I will do that when I go next month .

am I getting wheel hop because my susspensions are not set correctly ?

I have koni yellow shocks that are adjustable . rear are set at most stiff and the front ones are set at nearly most stiff , should I loosen up my front susspension or they need to be hard the fronts ?

Also I am going to buy some 15" rims so I will see if bigger profiled tires will help .

I went and set the traction bars only 1 turn closed (they were 3 turns closed before) , now I see what happens.

Check to see what psi you are running in your front tires, it may be too high. You might want to try to feather the clutch instead of dumping it.

you need to get some drag radials, run them at around 14 psi, adjust your traction bars so you have a slight "toe in" condition, I usually adjust mine about 5 turns in for the strip and I usually have no wheel hop.
