Is there an aftermarket AC system for a 86 Accord?
I picked up a mint 86 with 68000 org miles , but it doesn't have AC. Is there something out there I can use? I bought it for $1000 and am using it for a work car so I don't want to spend alot.
Thanks

There is an AUX A/C unit. It's called the driver's side window.
Actually, I believe no matter what you do it's going to cost a good amount of money. Check a local car A/C place and it should be cheaper than the dealer but still a couple hundred.

I could deal with a couple of hundred not 5 or 6 . I know my way around cars, but never played with AC. If I went to a junk yard and took all the parts off one how hard would it to install?

Wow, I was just thinking, but man the A/C is all over the place. There's the compressor which has lines going in and out of the car and to the grill and back and then the computer to control etc. It's a big project.
the minimum it is going to cost you is about 1500. your control unit, heat exchanger are going to have to be replaced (you gotta take the dash our for that one) and not to mention that the following will have to be installed:
new drive belts
mounting bracket for a/c (may have to replace some brakets on engine)
condenser
compressor
acumulator/dryer
evaporator
all of the high and low pressure lines
You may have to replace your radiator as cars with A/C usually have a higher capacity model and provisions for the A/C lines to pass through or around them to get to the condenser in the front of your car.
