Default m2s4 5th gear into m2f4...its possible

it is possible but some milling has to be done to ge tit 100%
5th gear spacing on the counter shaft is about 2-3 mm more on the h23 gear then the h22

the gears on the main and counter line up fine but the nut on the counter shaft doenst sit down far enoguh and the snap ring for the counter shaft is in the wrong spot ...

but taking 3mm or so off the 5th gear (counter shaft 5th )would allow all of this to fit in the case proprerly....

spacing on every gear is differetn from 2nd and up but they end up very close in the end ...

any questions go right ahaead

Awesome. I can easily machine ~3mm off of anything here. I love working for a machine shop. Next clutch change I will look into this. Got any pics?

i forgot pics but ill pull the case of tonight and get some for you .....
im glad you mentioned the spacing to me or i might have gone to far with it lol ...thanks again

its funny cause the 4th and 5thgears (even though the spacing was different ..lined up 100%..and with the h22 5th back on it there offset abit ...but honda made clearance..mabye its a noise isure if all the teeth are meshed vs 80% of the teeth ....but yea a few mm here or there is all it might need ..liek i said the gears mesh fine just need the get the counter shaft bolt and the bearings to sit down a bit so the snap ring goes in the right spot

Corey (honda318dx) has mentioned changing gears in prelude trannies. Maybe we can get his input? machine4321, where did you get your M2S4 gears? An old tranny or did you buy them from honda or something? Also, does the 5th gear syncronizer fit ok, or did that come from the M2S4 also?

the 5th came from a ms24 i had for parts

i already mentioned it to corey and he hasnt dont it yet ...

the 5th gear syncros work fin but the revers syncro and cone are differetn sizes between the 2..only thinkness wise wich determins the final amount of the main shaft that sticks out ...i think i have the right one on there now hahah

What about an M2L5 5th gear into an M2A4? Is it just as easy as machining it down?

i have pics but no ability to upload them.

it is not quite as easy as 'just machining a few mm's off'. i mean, a tranny is built on thousands of an inch. i had to go to three machinist's shop before i found someone skilled enough to do it, and even then, he had a hard time of it because the gears are made of ridiculously hard metal.

he put it on the lathe, and we thought he was shaving it down until we noticed the gear was actually shaving THE CUTTER. He eventually used a sort of gigantic table grinder.

right now i'm too busy to complete the reinstall due to school, but i'm interested in what you were saying about problems with the mainshaft reverse synchro cone- i hoped that the h22 parts would work. are the of enough of a different size to cause an issue?

yea im not supriesed at how hard the material is ....

but when i saud "just needs a few mm " means just that ..every gear between the 2 are all different spacing ..but they all mesh with the gears properly and only out a few mm.. 5th comes out a few mm to hig and when the snap ring goes into the counter shaft it doesnt allow the case to fit flush ....
