Well my drivetrain is screwed on my 1996 ex with 135k miles. I hate the last biatche who owned it. But anyways all my transmission bearings are screwed, 3rd grinds bad and it makes ungodly noises. My differential is disentegrating while i drive and my clutch slips like old men on linoleum floors.

So anyways im thinking of swapping the transmissions cause they are relatively cheap and mine is at least $80+ screwed. Im thinking of putting in a limited slip differential but might be price limited. And a new clutch that will handle 200-230hp which i plan to eventually get.

So my question is, Is an lsd a good choice for a daily driver or should i go stock? And any suggestions on cheap lsds?

 

Unless you plan on getting that 200-230 hp real soon, don't waste your money on a performance clutch. Just get an OEM replacement one, and when you finally do get there, burn the **** outta that clutch and then buy the new one.

As for the LSD.....they are a fun/good thing to have. But if you don't really have any use for it right now, don't waste your money. Work on getting to that hp goal first, then when you really need an LSD worry about it. And I know it would be easier now since the tranny is out of the car and everything, but dropping a tranny can be done in no more than an hour and a half to two hours by yourself.

 

Well, IMO, if you REALLY plan on getting that power, break those money dumping days apart. Get an upgraded clutch/flywheel now, get another D16Y8 tranny, invest in some carbon coated synchros from gear-speed.com, and get yourself an LSD unit.

 

LSD is useless if you're not hardcore bro...just buy a stock tranny

 

What do you think i can pick up a stock differential for? $$?

 

Don't even waste your time messing with the guts of a bad tranny. But a new y8 tranny. They are cheap and not difficult to find. They go for about $300 on here. And you could try a local junk yard too.

 

yah LSD is overrated for cars that spend more time on the road than at the strip or track, money is better spent on clutch and flywheel than LSD.
