I'm really needing a little more low end power and i was wondering whether it was advancing or retarding that gives more low end

Well I did it but I was only able to advance it about 4-5 degrees from stock. Does that sound about right? I turned it as far to the firewall as i could and I got no pinging and I think I feel a little more low end power

Yup, it's good for low/mid-range power but lose up top.

Wrong.

You will gain across the entire powerband, but I felt more in the lowend than anything else.

And no, 4 degrees advanced it not that much. The manual has 2 degrees of leeway, so you're really only 2 degrees over spec.

My buddy ran around for months in his H23 w/ the dizzy fully advanced. Don't recommend it, but it can be done.

Proper way = use a timing gun

Afro-engineering way = mark a line across the head and the dizzy, where they join. Rotate towards the firewall; each millimeter of rotation is roughly a degree of advance.

Wrong. You actually can lose power up top. I've seen it on the dyno with my own car and others.

Well that is not the norm. I have personally seen a stockish H23 Prelude dyno higher on the topend after advancing the timing.

Uhhh, if you guys are gonna do this, make sure you bridge the service connector or your ECU will compensate and go back to default....

I am detonating with timing set at 15 degrees BTDC with a JDM H22 and 93 octane fuel....Be very careful, you may even need to get a set of colder plugs to get rid of detonation...

Denso Iridium

On OBD 2 you can't adjust the timing according to HELM manual. It says check the timing at the flywheel, if it is not within the specs, replace ECU, nothing you can do.
