I purchased a used sohc head on ebay. I had the thing tested, milled, and cleaned. The guy says he has to take it apart to do so, which is fine but Ive never taken a head apart before let alone put one back together. I want to do this head swap tomarrow but im gonna get it without the cam and camgear on it I think. Is this a big deal? I know ill have to do timing when I do the head swap but this will be my first time so I dont wanna **** anything up. Where can I get the info I need? Thanks.

 

As long as you get the cam on the new head set to TDC (top dead center) and the engine set the same, you won't have to mess with the time much or at all. Make sure you use assembly lube if the came is new. Use it liberally on the cam and all the points where it contacts the head.

 

How do I set it to TDC?

 

I'm not sure, as I haven't come across having to do it yet. But do a search and check the FAQ thread on the top, I'm sure you will come across it.
