Default T4/SFWD...How long do your motors last?

I love reading on Mondays about how everyone did on the weekend, but I'm always wondering how long do your motors last at the 600+whp level? From what I've read your going through a few rounds, and the guys that make it further means even more passes. I understand drivetrain parts break etc, but how do these engines fair with the hp levels they reach? Do they make it through an entire season of abuse before rebuild, or only a few races? Just curious.

Most of the SFWD guys have very solid setups. I would imagine a full season would be no problem at all. More driveline issues are encountered than actual motor failures.

You can last on the same engine an entire season if done right. I know GSC and Jason had an engine that last 3 seasons.

i've always heard for every extra 100whp you get from an engine, your engine life decreases substantial.

Nice, didn't think they could take all that abuse. Arturbo, there is a little pic of your car in the back on the newest Modified Mag. Article on how the T4/SFWD class is still the best to watch because of the full field.

As long as it's tuned properly and assembled properly, it will last at least a season, if not more.

People who say less are kidding themselves, or are doing something wrong.

Mike's Yellow SFWD Coupe's been on the same motor since the beginning of last year. So you can say about a year and half of racing.

My engine has been running strong now for about 2 years. It's not putting down 600whp like some people, but I agree if built and tuned right it should last for awhile.

This will be my second season on mine. No engine issues yet only tranny problems.

600whp on a 1.8-2.2L motor is pretty stressful....

I'm getting into my 2nd season with mine... 524whp last season, shooting to add another 100WHP in a week or two on the dyno.

I'm surprised you guys are only getting 1-2 seasons out of your motors... I would expect more than 5000 miles

Brian (10secivic) has two going on three years on his motor making ~600whp, that was daily driving for a while too (race gas just started getting expensive). It's not that these motors don't last, so long as you've got the fuel and aren't crazy with timing (if you're running moderate to "good" boost levels everywhere) they shouldn't be "blowing up" all the time. The thing that really gets the abuse is the rings, but they can always be replaced. Trannies are a bitch though, aren't they!!!

We've built a few 700whp+ street motors, and they'll hold up for a season of racing and street driving without a problem. It's just, you always want to upgrade the setup so they get torn apart and rebuilt anyways!
