Default Milano Red 97' Civic coupe 1.6. Quick help please?

Im soon to buy a milano red 97 civic coupe 1,6 (d16y7?)... It's stock, 142000km on it and has new stock exhaust, some ricey 17 inch alloy wheels. It seems to be in mint condition in the paint and interior...

So, I want to clear some things out:

What do i look for? What weak points are there on rust/wear on the body?
Anything special to check on the engine to see if it has been abused or taken care of? any other tips? Share som experiences on buying this kind of car?

Would appreciate some quick answers here.
The local norwegian honda forum is down atm, so i guess this is the right place to ask.

-Thanks.

I too have a 97 coupe and no problems with rust, I think that was mostly 95 down civics in the quarter panels. As far as if the engine was abused or taken care of you can always ask for maintence records and run the VIN to see if there have been any accidents. Ask about timing belts being changed (every 60000 to 75000) and look over belts for wear. A lot of people have problems with trunks leaking around taillights (usually results from accident) but can occur because the gaskets are bad so make sure there isnt a pool of water sitting in the trunk. Other than that just take her for a test drive and see what you hear. Good luck.

i would just make sure it runs and drives straight, no check engine light, drives alright at different speeds (no noises or vibrations), check fluids and fluid levels. Check to make sure the car hasn't been in an accident (visual inspection/lemoncheck on the web) Hondas are known for reliability so your most likey getting a good car. make sure the car has an up to date inspection and go from there, once you get the car in your hands and really look at it you'll know whats goin on.
i got a a milano 97 EX coupe (d16y8) not sure but i think other models may be y7...dunno if its different in Europe.

I think y7 is the DX and LX engine code. (non vtec)

Thanks guys.

I'm sending my uncle to check it out (the car is located in another city), so i just needed som checkpoints that are important to look for. And yeah, its y7. 1,6 sohc no-vtec 106hp or something... (sloooow...)

I'm doing a mini-me (with boost???) or a full engine swap on it in the future i think.

Anything else to look for? Any weak spots in the electric system (it's got eletric sunroof, windows, and locks...)?
