Default Paint job in Mexico.........any good?

im an asian guy and my wife is mexican. im in need of a paint job and my mother in laws boyfriend who is a new booty of the border is telling me that Mexico's (TJ specific) paint jobs are better than here in the states and cost less. If i understood his broken english correctly, he also says it takes just a day to do. is all this true? anyone have any experience with mexico's paint jobs? i want to know because i live two hours away from TJ.

TIA

a day? are you serious? there better be 10 of those guys tearing it apart, prepping and putting it back together working a full 24 hours. i wouldn't trust it to be a quality job. Now if you're only scuffing and spraying the existing paint and masking everything off rather than r&i'ing parts then it can easily be done in a day. But that doesn't mean it will be a quality job. I would expect the paint edges to start peeling within a month of it being sprayed.

you get what you pay for and you should never rush a paint job!!!

I've never been to TJ, but I doubt they'll do that good of a job. Yuou should try to take a trip there some day and check it out.

who knows if they'll have a paint booth and not take any of your stuff

If you're going to be cheap, just go to one day paint and body.

hey man im from Monterrey, Mexico and one,two day paint jobs are ugly. If your talking about taking your car to the border is like killing your own car man really.
Where i live is about 3 hrs from TX. and paint jobs in here are just as good as in the US but they are very expensive jobs and ussually a good job will take about 3 weeks or something.
My advice as a Mexican, stay in the US for the job. Im planning on painting my EM1 and i want to take it to Houston because of the price and quality.

PS a good paint job here in Monterrey, Mexico is around 3K to 4K(us dlls)

I live 3 miles from the border in Tamaulipas. I've been to Mexico a shitload of times. Their paintjobs suck. They don't know how to blend colors. They don't know how to match. They don't know how to do anything. Don't do it.

i hope you are not serious...

there was a race crew from san diego that used to show there cars at a lot of the socal car shows and events that had thier cars painted in TJ, you have to know somebody though, i would not go alone...if anything at least go down there before hand and DON'T take your car that day...walk across and take a cab to the places you need the go...have a person that speaks good spanish go with you...the money is hat talks down there also...some cars leave f'ed up but if the painter knows you will hook him up they will most likely take car of you...prep the car yourself and save some heart ache...

I aint Mexican but thats fucked up homie! I know one thing they can do right.. take you out in a sec. for talking ****!
anyways back to the subject... I know you won't get a better paint job in TJ thay don't use spray booths or oven booths for that matter.. remember they don't have all the tools we have here in the states..now if you go down more into Mexico then that's a different story they got everything we got and you could get a good job done.. but for all the driving you would have to your better off doing it here in the states...

Come to monterrey to have the job done.. you won't be dissapointed, if you live in TX its about 2 hrs from laredo, 7hrs from houston, hrsfrom Mcallen, 5hrs from San Antonio.
Monterrey is compared to berverly Hills so come take a look and then talk bullshit.

coming from a mexican american... i'd say if you trust him, being your mother in laws boyfriend, i'd say do it.. if he's there too or if your there. if you don't know him too well i'd say no. but mexican's can do some bad *** paintjobs... lowriders and ****, not my style but some of those are clean as hell.

it depends on which shops u take your car to get it painted. i have a few mexican friends that can do a hell of a clean paint job. I have a friend who took his car down to tj to have it painted yellow back in like 96 it came out nice at first but the paint they used was so cheap that after a few months the yellow started fading so yeah ask your mother in laws boyfriend to ask around and see which shop does a good quality job.
