Getting New Bike... Need Help
hey im picking up a yamaha r6 tomorrow and was wondering how i should break in the motor? a couple of my friends said to take it up all the way to red line all gears right when you get it. they said its better for the motor. but the owners manual said to keep it low for the first 500 or so miles. help please.

There are mixed opinions on how to break in your new bike. I personally stayed under 6k on my new r6 for 600 miles. But nonetheless this link is an interesting read

I kept it under 7k for the first 60 miles then changed the oil. After that I kept it under 8K with an occasional rip up to about 11k and changed the oil again at 600 miles. After that I took it to redline. I think somewhere in between the manual and mototune is the way to go.

I broke mine in about the same exact way, minus the oil change at 60 miles, dynoed my bike right after the 600 mile oil change an got 104.9 whp on a stock 600rr.(highest stock "true" 600cc the dyno operator at the shop had seen in 3 years of working there)Still runs like a champ 4k miles later.
