Default failed safety inspection because of JDM front...help!

I failed the VA state inspection because he said that the parking lights are not amber. do they really need to be amber? the problem is that if they were amber, my high beams would be amber since the space for the high beam is shared with the parking light.

also, he failed me because he said that they need to be where to blinkers are. so not only do they need to be amber, but they need to be at the end of the run where the blinkers are. is this correct? has anyone tried to do this?

also, the headlight assembly is not DOT approved. no where does it say on the headlight that it is DOT approved. is this needed on the headlight assembly to pass inspection?

also, he said that my fog lights are wired wrong. even though I have a switch, when my high beams go on, they need to automatically turn off. is this correct? how have you all wired your fog lights?

I need help passing inspection. anyone know how to make my parking lights legal? what have you all done to pass? any ideas would be greatly appriciated, thanks.

Not sure about all the other conditions, but for the turn signals, can you just put in an amber bulb? I doubt the actual housing needs to be amber, but I think it does need to be made of that reflective material.

One other tip: Ask around to see who's more of a lenient inspector.

Good luck.

i would imagine that you would fail because the front reinforcement bar does not pass crash standards in the US. the other problems you listed are small, insignificant problems. the parking lights in the US is the same as the JDM city lights. however, the US integra uses the turn signal bulb as the parking light so you may have to rewire to have your corner JDM bulbs stay on constantly as well as blink as your turn signal. good luck though. your best bet may be to hopefully find a more lenient inspector as P Nut said.

It wouldn't make your high beams amber.

Exactly. Pay a few more bucks to buy the sticker and call it a day.

Sounds like you got owned by the JDM front end

As for the headlight units, what are you going to do?

He has the switch. The problem is that they are supposed to automatically shut off when high beams are turned on.

Maybe take the fogs (or just the bulbs) out for the inspection?

I have amber "city lights" and my high beams do not light up amber. Here's an old pic of my car without the high beams on, you can still see that the parking lights are amber.

They're definitely not as lenient as say ... Ohio.

But in answer to the initial post, the inspector is technically correct on all counts. Good luck.

Just another reason I left that freakin place as soon as I graduated high school. All accounts are correct. Take the car to the acura dealer in fairfax and have them do the inspection. The foglight issue is that way even in Florida. It can be fixed by simply installing a relay between the high beams and the fogs. When the car goes from low to high, the fogs turn off. The side markers on a JDM front end are not supposed to be turn signals, they are running lights in japan, on when the parking lights are on and are not supposed to be wired to the turn signals. They are also supposed to be orange lenses. you should be able to put in single filiment orange bulb and pull it off the blinker circuit.

I'm going to have this same problem in a few months... I seem to remember that depending on where you located the hot wire in the fuse box, it can be done. Is there a jumper there that powers off when the high beams come on?

Heaven forbid we actually abide by the law when 'caught'!

Chris - who notes that on all vehicle emission test notices in Illinois (since AFAIK we dont have safety inspections) you get a nice warning dead center: "Any offer of compensation or any attempt to otherwise improperly influence emission inspection test results will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law." I'm sure you can sneak a car through in any state that has tough emission/safety inspections (unlike michigan!!!), but ugh, oh well. Sleazy.

Oh well. Its ok and legal if everyone else does it, you know.

As far as the thread starter. Good suggestions above as far as the amber bulbs. Not sure about the actual JDM front issue and how to actually pass it by a tough inspector. Not sure if thats part of the issue anyways.

I wired mine for the stock configuration, using stock duel filement bulbs. this is result, legal in va.

so the turn signals are my turn signals, and parking lights, just like stock was.

Lets all make this a lesson in life: become good friends with at least one inspector.
