Tire sidewall vs. diameter
I just picked up a set of Kumho 205/60/13 Victoracers. Here's why, I got a e-mail from a guy who said he has some 235/45/13 Kumhos and I can pick them up today. Cool I thought, so I drove 1.5 hours in stop and go traffic to find that the tires were actually 205/60/13! The price was only $250 and I was frusterated from trafic so I said what the hell and bought them. When I got home I compared them to my 205/45/15 street tires and it looked like the diameter was only .5-1 inch smaller. The whole reason I bought 13" rims was to improve accleration for autoXing and here it looks like I almost have the same tire size! It got me thinking what's the diff between a 15" rim and 13" rim if the tire sizes make both wheels equal size?
What should I do:
1. Don't get them mounted, wait until tirerack gets more 235/45/13 and potentialy have to run another event on street tires?
or
2. Get them mounted and run them until they wear out and then get the proper size but be sure to have some R tires for the next event?

How serious are you? Are you making a run for a trophy at nationals? You won't likely be nationally competetive on those tires. But if you don't care, $250 isn't a terrible price for 4 sticky tires (As long as they were brand new!).
Run em until there's nothing but cord left....

I was checking the specs on the diameter of 205/60 vs. 235/45 and it's only 1.2 inch difference but I guess the real loss is the amount of contact patch.
As for national competition I am going just for the experience but to place well would be nice. I haven't decided if I should run these for a while and switch closer to nationals or just switch now.
you just got some almost new kumhos of $62.50
I'd run them....
smaller rims maybe better... to keep rotating mass closer to the center of the hub..
takes less torque to turn them..
the small tire also weighs less
You'll probably be fine.. run those tires till they die..

You could run the 205's in the back and get some 235's for up front and have an oversteering demon
I'm running 225/45 15 front and 205/50 15 rear with good results in autoX... really helps the car rotate

Ooooooooo
That sounds like a fun idea.
I like this plan. I'll get the 205s mounted for now until I can get 4 235s. Then I'll swap on the 235s in front and see how I like it. If I hate it can can place the extra two on the back but if I like it I now have a second set of 235/205.
Anyone else try such a difference in front/rear tire widths?
